Travel Tax??

Nope ya got it backwards ;) 1st the travel tax was been included in the ticket purchase, but only with tickets purchased from within the Philippines (for the most part) - OFWs got very "annoyed" with this as they are exempt from paying, so they protested. Later the terminal fee was added to ALL airfare purchases no matter how you purchase the ticket, much the same as all the airport fees from other countries (that someone doesn't complains about)

Yup. Pretty much.

Just traveled out of NAIA last week. No more terminal fee and I just paid the 200 pesos "processing fee" for the travel tax. My daughter with both passports didnt have to pay anything.

Much, much better than having to pay travel tax AND the terminal fee before being allowed to my boarding gate. More shopping money yay!

More shopping money.. that is never a bad thing!

Yes it was nice our last trip to the Phils not having to stop at a booth and pay the terminal fee when we flew back out.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks everyone. I've tried to follow this thread, but I admit that I am now thoroughly confused. Joan (Philippine citizen) and I (USC) are going to the Philippines next week. We are flying PAL (tickets bought on Orbitz in the US) to and from PI. We are also going to Palawan for a week (PAL Express, bought on CheapOair in the US). What, if any, terminal fees/travel tax can we expect to pay? (Mods--sorry, I didn't intend to hijack the thread, it just seemed logical to post here rather than start a new thread on the same topic).

Terminal fee are always there, domestic or international flights, for NAIA they are included with the airfare (booths are gone!) not sure at other airports. Rate is P750 at NAIA.

Travel tax I believe is only for international flights. In the case of your wife she will pay P200 for the exemption fee before checking in with the airline.

If you are flying from a airport other than in Manila, example if starting from Davao and changing planes in Manila and onto Palawan, then you only pay airport tax in Davao

Thanks everyone...no connecting flights--NAIA2 to Puerto Princessa and back. Sounds like the terminal fees were paid already from Manila and we need to have terminal fees from Palawan and P200 for Joan's exemption fee for the tax coming home.

If your plans aren't firm and you have not already planned to do this, suggest you take a 4-5 day stay in El Nido. Not as touristy as PP, Excellent day excursions to outlying islands, day trips inland (we didn't take any of these), diving is superb (there are day training classes available, one morning open water fam dive and 2 afternoon dives if you're not certified), relatively inexpensive accommodations, and of course excellent fresh caught daily seafood. Highly highly recommended.

My wife and I did this before venturing up to Banaue and Bontoc terrace trekking.

so if you only hold US passport you dont need to pay any fees?

Terminal fees only for everyone,

My wife has yet to pay any travel tax when leaving Philippines. Some do pay it, Some get scammed and pay the full amount of 1620 peso. I see now some are paying only 200 pesos. I have never paid anything once wife gets GC

That is exactly what we are doing...we land in PP and get right on the van to El Nido. We have 5 full days in El Nido and then head back to PP for the flight back to Manila. Looking forward to the day trips and the photography opportunities, but also looking forward to sitting with my feet in the sand with a big Red Horse!

Boracay was the first island resort that we went to. It has a special meaning for us because it was the first time we met in person. We stayed at Nigi Nigi Too, so it was a bit away from the main hotel area. Too be honest, we did not venture out much because the hotel and beach was so beautiful. The room and lanai were very big and we could bring our food/drinks right up to the beachfront. Perfect. The cheap live lobster was a bonus! I could do without the people hawking all the ####### all day, but minor inconvenience. We went to Bohol on the next trip (the "pop the question"trip!") The beach was not as spectacular, but there was a lot more to do inland. We are definitely looking forward to El Nido!
