Why on God's Earth does my fiancee have to pay a "travel tax" and "terminal fee" when leaving the Philippines? Is it because they want to milk people for anything they can since they can not tax them anymore? These bloody taxes! I hate them!! Why they doing this? I can not wait for her to be here because then I can save money than send it out. Once she is out of those hostile areas, I will be so happy, and more financially stable.

TAXES!!!! SO EVIL!!!!!!!!!! Everywhere you turn!!!

She kept on asking me about it and I said just be silent hahahaha....

Before I forget....

1. NEVER EVER EVER have any of the porters help her or touch any of her luggages ( I am not saying all of them are crooked but better be safe than sorry).

2. Always chin up and look the airport people straight at their eyes, but still be polite and smile. They are wolves and easily smell prey....

3. Filipino's are well known to be always respectful and polite to the point that they become "shy"..tell her to always be confident.

Do not be shy of the people from the airport, show confidence... dont know how to explain this more but hopefully I convey the message.

Safe travels to your Fiance !!!

As long as she still holds a Philippine passport she will have to pay those taxes everytime she flies out of Ph. With my experience, they asked for the receipts at the airline check-in counter, my husband and son didn't have to since they both have U.S.

Here is one for you, travel tax is collected from all Philippine citizens whenever they travel outside the country, even on vacation. And everyone pays the terminal fee when they fly out of NAIA, now a days it is included in the price of the ticket.

She never had to pay terminal fees before, and she has flown to other countries. Maybe because of her work.

I guess so, when did they start adding the fees on the ticket ?

It's been a couple years now that they have started adding it to the actual ticket. I think it was 2012 or 2013 when they started doing it.

That is the law that it has to be paid. I know it sucks, it really sucks but that is the price to pay to fly out of the Philippines. They primarily do it to get money from people that want to fly out of the country. They do it because they know that people want to leave and will pay almost anything to leave the country.

PS. When is she flying to NC? I ask this because I will be in Greensboro next week if y'all want to meet up and she can talk to my wife to ask anything. I say this because it WILL be a culture shock and a little overwhelming for her at first. Even if she was a OFW living abroad it will be a little much for the first couple days/weeks. My wife was a OFW in Qatar for 4 years and it was overwhelming for her as well when she moved here.

Travel tax isn't added to all airfare, depends on where it was purchased, have to check the list of fees to see if travel tax as paid. Terminal fee is now included in all airfare.

Very interesting thoughts on the fees. Not that I agree with paying more money than I could afford.

Thanks, all.

I think travel tax was included in our PAL ticket in 2014 so we only paid for the terminal fee.
