Have work permit, can I still apply for a new one?

Hi all,

I'm currently adjusted from F1. Sent my packet on Jan. 28, did the biometric and now waiting for the interview notice. I currently have a work permit though OPT and is valid until Nov this year. Early today, I was asking my lawyer to send out the I785, which I didn't send with my I485/130. But he said USCIS wants the application filed within 90 days of expiration. I personally doubted since they're two categories of work permit. Anyone has any suggestions/comments? Thanks.

Thanks for your information. I know I've posted a similar topic a while ago. I just got confused this morning when I talked to my lawyer about this and would like to double check it here again.

Hi, sorry to bug you on this again. My only concern about this is that the new EAD card would have a different A number. I currently have an A number and used that when filled out the I485/130 forms. Do you think that could be an issue? Thanks

As I recall OPT has a different A number for some reason and it's normal. Check with the search function here.

Yes, my OPT had a different A number too. Remember, those on OPT are non-resident aliens (non-immigrants). The A number for the GC would be for a permanent resident (immigrant).

Thanks. So it doesn't matter even I filled my non-resident A number in the forms and then apply for a new one with a different A number?
