I will be submitting my documents to NVC (AOS and IV package), one of my document is in the official language of the country (Arabic) , I am preferring to get it translated by a professional translator. Do I need to get the translated document notarized? or translator's certification is enough ?

and do I need to get it attested by any other body i,e Ministry of Foreign affairs ?

I will be submitting the photocopy to NVC and original to the embassy at the time of Interview.

I asked my embassy (Sweden) and this was the respons:

You may use any translator who can comply with these requirements:

*Translation Requirements

All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations. Please note that the applicant cannot him/herself translate the documents. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and,

Translator is competent to translate.

So as long as it's certified and the translater gave the document on the side it should be good :)

If the embassy says he have to, then I would do what they say. Each embassy is different and want different things.

Please read my all above reply then you will understand......

My bad. But if the embassy wants him to have it notarized and that's how they do it in his country then I guess he needs to get it that way.

Dear embassy does not ask for notary in normal case only they ask if person does not have original certificates then they accept notory or attested certificate in some country notary is easy like 1 mint job here in Dubai notary means wasting many hours plus good amount to waste i hope it make sense to you...

I know what you are saying. I didn't mine notarized because they didn't say anything, what I'm trying to say is he called them and they specifically said it needed to be ... I can't explain it better but if they say he should then I would get it no matter what.

Well , notarizing a copy of a document certifies that it's been copied from the original, and notarizing the original document means notary public certifies that it's been signed by the person in the presence of notary public (in my case it's going to be the translator) ... Morning I will call embassy again and double check with them and they (embassy) did tell me that it has to be translated from Arabic :( even though NVC website states that non-English documents can be submitted if they are in official language of the country.
