Transporting my stuff across border in 2 separate vehicles

Hi all!

I finally got my interview date (woo hoo!), and I'm planning on moving right after my K1 Visa is received. I'm moving to Jersey and will be driving my car down, however, my parents are also coming with me in their van, so that I can bring more stuff. Am I allowed to bring stuff that's in a separate vehicle (parents' van) w/o being taxed? I'm worried that the officer will give them trouble, since their van will be stuffed with my things.

Any info regarding what we're allowed to bring over to the US would be helpful! Even a number to contact regarding this kinda stuff would be great.

I don't see that this will be a problem at all, but they will need some information from you (just as though you had used a mover). I belive a copy of what they are carrying and a copy of your visa and I-94 will suffice, but will double check this. If crossing at the same time, then just explain that, they will probably be asked to wait while you are processed.

You have 10 years (I think) to get your stuff across (somebody correct me if I am wrong). As far as a list of allowable items goes ... hmmm... where did I see that?

I will post it if I can find it before someone else does.

Feb 25, 26 & 28 - got emails saying that the cases had been transferred to another office, then to my local office, and then just transferred and are being processed

Mar 17 - got email, attached to one case number only, saying that my A number was changed relating to the I-130 filing

The great Zyggy stated 10 yrs in one of his posts. Can you trust those POE guys? lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Now why would I ever swat Flames... we're buddies :)

You do have 10 years after your first entry to bring your used personal effects into the US duty free...

If someone is going to follow you with your stuff... what you do depends on when they are following you..

If they're coming with you, be sure that they enter into the primary inspection line immediately after you and tell the CBP officer that they have your stuff....

If they're coming sometime after you, they will require a copy of your I-94 and visa as well as CBP Form 3299...
