Canada at almost impossible sounds one up on the US.

I am trying for medical residency in both Canada and USA. Canadian medical residency is almost impossible to get and I do want to work in Canada as a doctor. USA residency will help me to work as a specialised doctor in Canada. I am just trying to finish all medical licencing exams fast.

What is the ETA for your Canadian permanent residency? Once you have established residency in Canada, you could apply for a US visa from there. The same issue will remain though, you will need to to have strong enough ties to Canada to convince the CO that you will return.

To become established in Canada will require time. I appreciate you want to get all this done, but doing things "fast" is an unrealistic expectation when dealing with immigration.

Take the Canadian PR out. it doesn't help your case. You don't have Canadian PR yet. You said you are "trying for Canadian PR" which you aren't sure if you will get it but you want a CO to give you a visa to US because it [doesn't make sense that you will settle in US instead of Canada where your husband is].

Looks like you focused too much on assumptions instead of trying to fulfill the requirement for the visa you applied for.

Do you have internship or residency offer from the US ? If you had it, then that "offer" form should have been added to your application.

You started on a bad foot with all your assumptions;that " you are a doctor, so it should be easy..besides, you don't plan on staying in the US but move to Canada".

Do your research and keep your assumptions far away from US immigration cos US immigration will definitely pour cold water on yourself "entitled" assumptions...sorry for bn harsh..

I had an observership offer in clinical psychiatry from a hospital in Chicago. They provided me with an invitation letter. I even had visa assisting letter from ECFMG for my exam.

On the contrary, I had an assumption that it is very unlikely for a doctor to get a usa tourist visa easily. I already knew that it will be difficult for me to get visa. Doctors have to face hard time to get visa for step 2 cs.

I really wonder if there is any immigrant doctor in this forum who can really help me out.

There was a thread earlier this year where somebody in the biz commented, about a Syrian Doctor.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The issue right now is you have no strong ties to India. When your spouse sponsored you for Canadian permanent residency, CIC required that you demonstrate tangible intent for moving to Canada. It is difficult to demonstrate strong ties to India when you yourself don't have intent to remain there. As long as this situation exists, it will be difficult for you to get a US B1/B2 visa (while you are in India) based on that issue alone.

I'm not sure this is what you want to hear, but what you really need right now is patience. Many of us here have been down this road. Once you have resided in Canada for a while, try again.

What makes you think anybody, especially the CO, cares about why you want to to go the USA and how it will make your life easier/better?

The hospital sponsoring you for your residency may not be enough. You should seek sponsorship from the ECFMG, they are authorized by the Department of State to sponsor Medical Graduates for visa's.

http://www.ecfmg.org/

If they won't sponsor you, then your chances of a US visa are slim to none.

Or you can wait to go to Canada. After you have established residency there, you can come to the US for this internship. because at the moment, your residency is tied up to India, which is a high fraud country. My home country included in that category too.

You would be shocked the number of doctors and "high" level professionals came here and abandoned their intent, and picked up low skilled jobs.

So despite your good intentions, others have messed it up for all of us. But if you can find out the actual reason for your denial, then do so and resolve that issue before you apply again.

Good luck!

Ok. First of all, As I already said I am waiting for my Canadian pr. Once i get it, i ll go there and do observership or research work etc there.

Second, I am also taking Canadian medical exams along with USMLE. i have already cleared MCCEE.

Third, Usa residency is accepted worldwide.

I can work with my Usa residency degree in canada if i have cleared all Canadian licensing exams(i have cleared 1 out of 4 )till now with few months extra training in canada, depending upon provinces.

Getting Canadian medical residency is nearly impossible like 5-10% chances.

Usa it s like 40-50% chances.

I appreciate everyone who replied to me. THANKS.

What field of residency are you interested in?

A 40-50% chance of scoring residency is ambitious, but far fetched. I am not discouraging you, only tell you the odds.

I deal with cases like yours, immigrant or non immigrant physicians, especially from India or Pakistan for observerships.

A letter from an academic hospital does not guarantee a visa.

Infact, as far as I know, getting a visa for the exam is easier than for observership. But you have to prove you will come back.

When is your exam scheduled and what dates were you planning to visit?

step 2 cs in Houston on July 11. I am planning for a 5 days trip (8-12 July). Already cleared step 2 ck. Taking step 1 in August. in India. Interested in psychiatry.

ECFMG report stated that every year 40-50 percent IMG get matched for medical residency.

How to prove that I will come back? Book tickets?

Wait, how were you going to do your observership in a 5 day trip?

Do you have a relative in Houston? Or anywhere in the USA?

And why are you taking your Step 2 before Step 1? Are you on a deadline/timeline?

Psychiatry has better match numbers, but it is no where close to 40-50%. It is more like 10%.

I am not sure what ECFMG report you are talking about, but an IMG matching is more like 10%. And you need 6 months to 1 year of observershp + Publications and letters of recommendation from someone in the US. But definitely publications.
