Hey Vennie! Welcome to Atlanta, you're going to love the friendliness of people here. Food wise not so. Your very first step will probably be at the SSA office to get your SSN.

Its freaking freaking hot now, at 36 degrees celsius daily, and 40 degrees sometimes in the car. I have to turn on the AC daily its super hot and dry right now.

I been travelling around, found out that NY food is actually alot cheaper in groceries, no taxes there, bought LOTSA food back. Price of a good bag of rice costs 24.99 here excluding taxes, whereas in NY its only 16 dolllars.

I've just changed my insurance lately, before getting a green card during AOS, my insurance bought through marketplace was super expensive, we then changed it to another plan at 83 dollars, and now after getting green card, we got our premium to 43 dollars.

unfortunately, the premium does not cover much and you will pay nothing for medical fees after spending 6500 medical fees :crying: . I seldom go to visit the doctor but I need to do pap smear, vaccinations, for yearly routine, does anyone knows if medical fees are expensive without insurance coverage in Atlanta? What's the price range?

We don't feel that its needed at the moment (till we are ready for baby) to pay 100 dollars bill per month to add on to our burden.

Oh Georgia16, I noticed your timeline, you're coming soon too!

How did your POE go???

Our POE was super easy. We were in visitor line for about 3 min then a nice lady took us out of line and over to the "tripod" area. There were 2 in line in front of us. After about 15 min we were called up and asked a few questions and then he asked us to take a seat while he finished the papers that took about 5-10 min and then he gave us our passports and said welcome to America.

The trip was good but very had for me, very sad about leaving Denmark :(

Unfortunately we have had a ruff start here since my boy got in the ER yesterday by ambulance. He was getting a vaccine needed for school when he kept passing out on the nurses who gave it to him, he was really bad. Luckily he is okay again and we are home. But not exactly a dream start!

Hey Georiga16, welcome to Atlanta! Freaking hot isnt it? I'm melting and turning on my AC daily, I bet my electric bills gonna shoot up this month.

I have been busy trying to look for new apartments, our rental lease contract will be over in October (A year since I came), they are giving us to notify them if we want to renew or not by August. The rental is so high in Atlanta right now and I'm still struggling with finding a job and learning driving. Driving is such a hindrance to my access to work areas.

Meanwhile my parents are still here with me on vacations, we recently went to Tennessee, very nice place but we prefer NY in terms of food and urban life, however roads on NY not as clean as Georgia.

I'm still deciding if I want to move up north in Asian area (Gwinett and Chamblee) or midtown Atlanta, but need to find a job there first to secure our finances. Hopefully I get good news soon, at least for my driving test :(

Vennie: I brought instant sauces without chicken ingredients when I came, and anchovies, dried shrimps, panko bread crumbs for prawns lol..no problems with those.

As for domestic flights, we brought on plane roasted pork, duck, pastries, buns, dumplings as many food as possible from NY lol, no problems for domestic, in case you're going to travel in future, just no liquid stuffs. We bought chilli paste too.

I hope you've arrived safely!

It is :) We were here last summer too so knew it was going to be very hot. Unfortunately we don't do well in this heat yet so we have AC on all the time ;) We live in Gwinnett and it's very nice here and good schools :) Downtown Atlanta would never ever be an option for us, way to much crime.

I hope you can get your DL very soon! .. We just got my SSN yesterday was very fast and the man was so nice :)

Hi everyone, so sorry for the late reply. I arrived Sunday and have been going around meeting all my Fiancé's family. It's been a hectic week but I am having a great time so far.

POE was super easy. Everyone since landing at the airport in Atlanta was super nice. My fiance got me on first class as a surprise for my first time traveling to the US. That was super exciting. I didn't know where to go on entering the airport but I asked and got some great help from the workers there. I was in and out in 20 minutes tops.

I love Georgia. We have been to a restaurant by the name of Bonefish. It was a lovely place and the waiters and waitresses were really friendly. Another lovely place we went to was the Sweet Tomatoes. I love their veggies haha. Walmart is great but the people that greet you outside looking for donations gets tiring after a while.

So far so good. Our one disappointment was going in to the court house to put in our paperwork on Friday for our marriage license but it was closed so we will have to go back Monday?

Welcome to Atlanta Georgia16?

Welcome to Atlanta Georgia16?

Hey Vennie, WOW You took first class, that was AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE, it took me 25 hours to reach Atlanta, and I tell you my back and neck hurts like hell. And there wasn't much entertainment or movies on the plane, I watched Jurassic Park throughout for I don't know how many times!

For first class passengers, you should have staffs escorting you to the tripod.

I'm gonna check on Bonefish and Sweet Tomatoes, I have not come across any restaurant that truly meets my standards (Food critic!). Went to this so called Top waffle/breakfast restaurant and it tastes bad, I searched through yelp and tripadvisor, was so disappointed and its expensive!

Aha! You get people begging for money outside walmart too! At my area, we tend to see alot of arrest, theft going on, Yeah my husband usually just tell them he don't have cash only cards which is why we never carry cash around. Or I will pretend I don't speak english! Easy for asian lady of course haha!

When we went to Fulton County Probate Court, we had to come twice too thinking we could get it done in a day :( Oh yesh parking is crazy expensive, spent 15 dollars each trip on it, remember to bring cash for the extra certified copies of marriage certs if youre going to do it in Fulton Probate. Theres an ATM there but I think every withdrawal you gotta pay extra which we had to :(

I didnt like my marriage cert from Fulton because it looks photocopied, black and white paper as compared to other counties, they have nice gold embossed on the stamp.

I remembered I called up the probate court and asked to make sure that it is the original copy because it really looked photocopied.

It is :) We were here last summer too so knew it was going to be very hot. Unfortunately we don't do well in this heat yet so we have AC on all the time ;) We live in Gwinnett and it's very nice here and good schools :) Downtown Atlanta would never ever be an option for us, way to much crime.

The utility bills at our apartment is really costly, so we try to on the AC at night only. I really like Gwinnett too, it is much more peaceful as compared to Downtown Atlanta and more asian food choices for me. The food is also cheaper and even tastes better!

I'm hoping to look for a corporate job at that area, because in Gwinnett there aren't many choices for corporate jobs, majority are retail, F&B.

I have to really look deep on lease right now, I don't think I can handle driving from Gwinnett to Downtown Atlanta, the drivers are reckless and they never signal!

I have not explored the whole of Gwinnett yet, just Duluth area, I'm trying to find out where the corporate offices are at.
