Hey welcome to Georgia, you will realize that Georgia's weather is like Pre menstrual syndrome lol.

I been busy lately trying to figure out the taxes, last year we filed jointly but this year (a full year) seems like our taxes are quite high.

Chinese New year is coming, my husband is having a few days leave from work, we're thinking of some activities to do around Georgia since we're on budget. (im still trying to find job) I'm thinking of exploring Alpharetta and Lawrenceville area.

Vennie, Goldfinch, don't forget to buy health insurance since its the time of the year to purchase insurance again and its mandatory to get it. I got mine thru private since my husband's company do not allow me to be included cos they said its alot of hassle blah blah cos of my green card process so on BS.

Really don't let them do that! Fight it with the HR department at his work because they have too.

Also if you do find job in Lawrenceville then just remember to not move there really becoming a bad area.

Oh no, we just wanna explore lawrenceville as vacation. As for Alpharetta thats where we are looking to move end of year or next.

About the health insurance issue, its been going on since I first came, so I gave up on it. When I first came, right after marriage, my husband tried to fill up the application and to include my name into the health insurance at his company. The health insurance is only a discount thru the company and to be deducted from salary. The company refused to include my name claiming that I am not American and I am holding conditional green card. We tried to fight with it for several times and they even lied to us to the extend that they told us that we can apply to the company's insurance and made us fill up forms, and the company actually didn't submit for us held it for months when we realized that something's not right because there was no news or update from company, and at that time I was OVERDUE for the marketplace deadline. We were so stressed out back then, went around asking visajourney ppl for help, had to call marketplace and begged them to help us to find a way out. We even had to go around to look for healthcare agents to help us. It was so last minute. Eventually they managed to, so we're using health insurance with Ambetter now (its cheaper even tho no coverage at all), my husband didn't use his company's either cos of this BS. I'm looking forward to a job change for my husband and getting better health insurance since we're planning on a baby this year.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the heads up Roy&Chanel? My husband just got the paperwork for ours. Great news. I got a job?I went in for my interview with a few other people and was hired on the spot. I was so nervous but the interviewer was so nice that I just forgot I was on an interview lol. They my coworkers are great people to work with. Its in retail. I love dealing with the customers.

Sorry about your job hunt dear. What kind of job are you seeking if you don't mind me asking?

The funny thing is I and my husband went to his favorite techno store 'fries' to look at some gadgets. Was hungry so we went to the food court inside to get some food n met the waitress who was new and just start talking asking her about her job as she seemed to be nervous with making our sandwich. We tried to put her at ease by chatting to her to put her at ease and asking her how she got the job and she told me from the job site 'indeed'. I came home went on there and sign up. It's free and they send me jobs to apply to.

You also get to upload your resume and cover letter free of charge. I applied to a few others on there and got some calls back after I had accepted my present job.

Hey Vennie, Congrats wow I'm happy that u found a job that fast! How are you accessing to workplace? I'm looking for the same line or related field (in office type) I have been doing for past 8 years in the Events Managing, Its hard to get a corporate job without driving license esp events jobs! Some jobs offered for me are too far. I am really looking forward to pass at least by Feb, I am failing every time! My husband is looking to change into IT field. Hopefully soon we get some responses especially for him as he is the sole breadwinner.(aiming for baby by next yr) I have been using LinkedIn and Indeed and Career Builder. Don't trust Glassdoor, I get so many spams. I have been trying my best to change my resume to meet American standards, resumes here are quite different from where I am.

Yes we are looking into Alpharetta cos of great schools. Our ultimate goal is to move to Seattle though, we really like it there. I'm starting to look into Baby Taxes and stuffs like which hospital is good for labor etc, once my husband gets settled with new job we're going to start a family.

Thanks Georgia16?

@Roy&Chanel. I live in Grayson and work in snellville. It's 10 minutes away. 15 if the traffic is bad. My husband work from home so he drops me off and pick me back up. It work out really well. I don't do glassdoor either as they seem to send me too much unwanted stuff. This is my first job in retail and I am loving it.

Hi all. I was wondering if any of you are familiar with Decatur. It's just east of ATL. Decatur has a great school system as well, but I don't know anyone who actually lives there, and wanted more of a personal review of the city.  It looks and sounds nice, and it's easy to travel to ATL, if work is in the city. I'm looking towards either Decatur, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta or Norcross. Any opinions.

FYI, I will be moving to Columbus, but have no desire to stay there. Its schools are bad, no work, and high crime. We only plan on staying there temporarily as our main goal is towards ATL and greater ATL, as the type of work is more plentiful there than Columbus.

Tomorrow there's Chinese New Year festival celebration, if anyone is interested, do check out the link: https://www.facebook.com/AtlantaChineseLunarNewYearFestival/ its tomorrow at 10am - 4pm theres lion dance, food etc. Entrance fee is 5 dollars. I will be going to check it out with my husband too!

Inside Atl City traffic is crazy, its hard to drive in such small roads and congestion. Its weird that some streets are wealthy and just across the street u see alot of homeless people and robbery. I scouted a few condos in the city, and found out that theres alot of theft around. If you are going to live in the City, you need to pay parking fees for your apartment/house, which is a turn off to me because they're quite costly per month. And most condos in the city have problems with noise disturbance, neighbors partying alot. I like the residential area near Atlantic Station, its quite nice there.

And I noticed that taxes in some counties are 7% and some are 8%.

For Alpharetta, majority are IT industries. If you are in the IT field it will be great.  I'm not sure about Decatur, Sandy Springs and Norcross for jobs, but from my understanding those are more residential area, I have explored the residential for those, also Marietta is blooming right now.

Happy Chinese New Year. :)

My husband is in the IT/Software engineering field. I've been looking towards Alpharetta as well as I saw many programming and software engineering jobs posted from there. I suppose we'll see where we end up moving once we get there. I'm just trying to plan ahead as much as I can. I want to live in a family friendly area that also has good schools. I too am not too thrilled to live in ATL itself, but prefer the suburbs or quiet country life. :P Do you think that it is a good idea to apply for jobs after we have the Visa interview or is it better to wait until we're physically there?

I think its better to wait, u will need to settle down, get state ID first. Its quite pointless to get a job right now when you're not physically there since they will be calling you up for interview(need a US phone number) and you don't have a permit to work yet. The responses will take around a few days to two weeks from the HR depending on how in need for that position to fill up. For my case, because office jobs in management/administration/operations are very wide base, they reply only 2 months later for rejection and interviews the next working day, as long as I do not hear from the company for a week, I know its over. If your husband can refer you into the company that's even better which is what I have been trying to do but its very tough to get a start. I been here for so long almost a year and 3 months, started officially scouting for jobs in around July 2016 after travelling around and settling down. Its been like 6 months and still looking. I'm worried that this might drag longer and people will think that gap of being unemployed is bad. Hopefully will get something after taking my IT course exams which I am expecting in end of Feb/early March. Good luck to you too!

Oh yes I visited the Chinese New Year festival today, its actually a small gathering, food is extremely EXPENSIVE! I can't believe the price! A pineapple tart(One PIECE size of half an oreo costs 2.50USD) I think food business is really good in Georgia since its still exploring on different cuisines. There's a new restaurant called The Halal Guys opening today, and it was LONG QUEUE!

Just found out that Atlanta is currently building the tallest residential skyline condo, its along the highway, its going to be about 74 stories. I notice that massive residential condos are being built now, looks like its growing. I have been looking into lease management jobs too since I noticed a huge growth in residential apartments, been applying but no responses from that yet, probably cos I do not have a real estate certification or any knowledge about property in Georgia.

Oh yes guys, I have been using this Mcdonald's app on my phone, I get free burger almost every week because Falcons(ATL) win the match! You don't even need to purchase anything, just drop by Mcdonalds and show them the code on your phone. One burger per phone though!
