Hi All,

I am in the process of applying for my IR-1/CR-1 and have a question about evidence for the affidavit of support.

My wife is American and I am from the UK. She lives in Lebanon working as a humanitarian aid worker, and I live in England working in finance.

The company I work for in the UK has agree to transfer me to their US office once my green card is approved. Will I be able to use my salary (which would then be earned in the US) as proof that we can support ourselves financially, or can that only be demonstrated by my wife's salary (earned outside the US) or from a sponsor?

Thank you,

David

Read through the detailed instructions for the I-864 https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

It will tell you how the intending immigrant can help. It will also tell you your sponsor (wife) has to be domiciled in the US in order to qualify to provide an I-864. Since she must be your primary sponsor, the domicile is an issue. There is a work around where she can show intent to domicile back in the US. It's best you read the specifics straight from the instructions.

Thank you Nich-Nick, very helpful. We will show intent do domicile in the US as her Lebanon contract is up at the end of the year, but I do not imagine she will find a job in the US straight away so my salary will support us until she does.
