Hi! I applied for a k-1 visa in December 2015 which was approved on April, 05,2016.

Can someone with a firsthand experience of fiance(e) visa explain the time line of the next steps?

Also, when to submit the affidavit of support and apply for the visa.

P.S. I have read about the processing times of different steps but I want to know how long it actually takes as it usually takes a shorter time than told.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Your case was approved on April, 5th and it should have been sent to NVC. It can take up to 30 days at NVC then after that will be sent by DHL to the Embassy where your fiance is and that takes about a week or less. I would start planning on the end or this month or first week of May to have it at the embassy and ready for you to complete your DS-160.

You should send the I-134 affidavit of support to have it ready there with your fiance.

Your case will be sent to NVC and then to Islamabad. When Islamabad receives the case, they will send an email. In my case they sent it to me, even though I'm the US Citizen. So keep an eye on both emails to see who gets it.

The email will have instructions to send certain documents to the embassy. This is when you submit the affidavit of support and apply for the visa. You will fill out the DS-160 and send them the confirmation page.

After the embassy receives your docs, they will send you an interview letter. Use this letter to get your medical done before you go to the interview. Then you go to the interview. Best of luck!

The NVC says they don't have it yet. They are actually getting mad about being called before 35 days are over since the petition was approved, which is how long they say it takes for them to receive it. There seems to be no way of finding out, except for calling them every now and then. The official website of the NVC says it takes 2-4 weeks for them to send the approved petition to the selected embassy. The 35-day waiting period is something i have heard over the phone.
