On September 30, 2006 my family and I filed a I-130. My uncle was sponsoring us for a green card (he and my dad were brothers). So it was the F-4 cateogory. On Ocotober 2009, I checked our case status and it said our file got moved to the local office. And today, USCIS called my uncle and they asked for a receipt number which my uncle provided. The person told my uncle that our file got moved to a pending status. They also said our file has moved to a case worker who will review it and let us know a decision within 180 days by mail. What does all this mean? What will happen in 180 days?

Which country are you from?

For most countries, you have about another 3 years to wait until your visa priority date becomes current and you can start the process to do a medical, send in more forms, and get a interview at the embassy. It is possible the caller just wanted to verify some information, or that they are processing your I-130 now so it is ready when the priority date becomes current.

I am from the UK. I have been waiting for 10 years now. They said a case worker is reviewing our case and will let us know a decision in 180 days. I am just wondering what the decision is?

It still is years ago , how old are you ? You can check the date on the visa bulletin The current priority date is 22 July 2003 so about 3 more years before you will be at the front of the line if you don't age out.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I am 20 years old, I will be 21 on February 2017. But why did they call and tell us that?

It is possible that they are currently adjudicating the I-130, which is the first part of the process. Once that part is approved, NVC will hold the case until the priority date is current.

There is no way to jump the line if your priority date is not current; yes, they are working on your case, but you cannot move to the last step and get a visa until it is current.
