Well, Indeed; I had a different experience. Throughout my whole immigration process I resided as a legal visitor in Australia. The CO on my interview did not ask what do I do here in Australia, or what status do I have in Australia. If I would have done it in Canada, it maybe might have been treated differently. So, it differs from country to country I assume.

The intention in my answer/suggestion was to let person know that it is possible to be visitor and have interview/medicals done in a country of visit (based on my successful experience at least). Probably I should have mentioned that it I am not sure, if it will work in Canada.
