How long from NOA2 until the NVC case number?

I'm in the middle of K-1 process. We got NOA2 by email on March 30, 2016. And my fiance got NOA2 by mail on April 4, 2016. It's said that he should receive a notice from the NVC when they get the case.

How long does this usually take?

How long from they get the case until they assign a case number?

Do we need to call them to know the case number or they will let us know once they assign it?

How long do they take to send it to the Embassy after they set the case number?

Thanks so much! So far the comments on visajourney have been really helpful. :)

Takes around 3 weeks to get to NVC and get the case number. You can call or you can wait.

They send it after a few days to your embassy.

Thanks Georgia16!

Yes you need to be proactive and call NVC to get your JAKXXXXXXXXXX case number.

Once that is assigned to you, NVC will transfer your case to the embassy and things will speed up.

In my experience, my then fiance called NVC after a couple of weeks, and got the case number.

So that's three weeks until the embassy received my file. Good luck!

1. It can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks to get your case number. (Ours took 5 weeks)

2. Once they receive the petition from USCIS, a case number is usually assigned within a couple days.

3. If you want your case number right away, then you will need to call them. Otherwise you can wait another 4 weeks or so for the letter from NVC to arrive in the mail.

4. K-1 cases only stay at the NVC long enough to generate a case number. It gets mailed out within a few days.
