How do I know if my file has been "touched"?

Hi everyone - me again!

I have a few questions in regards to our file being "touched"... I A) have no idea what "touched" means - presumably its when someone starts to work on your file and scans it onto the system therefore creating a file log aka "touch"?.

B) How can I see a record of when these "touches" are happening?

C) what is the kinda average amount of "touches" a K1 gets prior to being approved, is the amount of them any indication as to where your file is at in the queue etc?

Thank you so much in advance :)

You just made a post the other day about your petition and being impatient.

There's nothing you can do to work out how many times your case has been looked at.

You just need to sit tight and wait.

From what I can gather there is no set rule on how many times a file is "touched" before approval and there is simply no way of knowing or accurately predicting when you case will be resolved. My case, for example, last saw activity on 12th Feb which is when the NOA1 (dated 10th) came through. I can take that to mean my case hasn't been reviewed yet but it could be checked and approved tomorrow or checked and approved two weeks from now.

It's hard, but there's nothing you can do but wait.

This doesn't happen until it's been sent to the embassy from NVC, after USCIS.

Ah okay!!! Thank you for explaining what it actually is! I didn't know what it actually meant!

:)

I think you've misunderstood what I was asking, I was trying to find out what the phrase touched was in regards to. Now I've found out its for the nvc stage. Which is what I was enquiringly about if it was to do with my progress right now or no.

Someone else explained it to me.

It can happen anywhere. "Touch" is a made up forum word to indicate a date has changed on your online status. That can be when you check it online at USCIS or later on CEAC at the embassy stage.

For what it's worth--

Having been all the way from K1 petition to US citizenship, I now look back and am embarrassed that I even bothered caring about "touches". They are pretty useless except to have something to say like "Yay, I got touched".

There's nothing wrong with asking questions. I mean from my understanding this is what these forums are here for. I get anxious myself at times, that's part of the process. Not being with your loved one, and knowing things are going faster for others around me, i'm sure that's difficult. Good luck, i'm sure you'll hear something soon. :)

Yes! Tricked is right!

During my K1 visa process, I was checking everyday my status in ceac website, and this what I have noticed:

Case Creation Date - will always be the SAME

Status Updated Date - will always change every time they touched your case

ex:

Status Updated Date - February 16 (The US Consul sent me an e-mail regarding my Packet 3)

- March 06 (When I sent my Packet 3 to US Embassy)

- March 07 (When I have done my Biometrics)

- March 14 (When US Embassy received my medical examination)

- March 17 (My Interview)

- March 21 (When I received my visa on hand)

I recorded those status case changes since it was already in US Embassy :)

I'd say my answer was more correct for this circumstance.

My USCIS experience didn't involve any changes to my case dates or the information displayed beyond the day it was accepted. (NO RFE)

Touched in the forum context doesn't refer to USCIS, it'd be stated what had changed.

You don't get any indication of when they touch it at USCIS beyond when they change it, either updating, RFE or accept.

To say USCIS shows touches is false, and gives the impression that to see no change in status means they aren't looking at it.

In a forum context, when people mention touched, they specifically refer to the CEAC tracking, where touches happen anytime your case is reviewed, as GeorgeandGeorgia outline above.
