It’s not subtle, it’s blatantly obvious! When I first heard that the Princess would be from New Orleans I thought it was some kind of joke!

A black princess from New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.

Why black, why New Orleans, and why now?

It may be subtle.... but it's there.

......first of all..it's Old/Romantic/Pirate-filled New Orleans..not long-term-memory-failed-only-remember-what's-on-CNN/Fox-Post Katrina New Orleans.. and second, she (Princess) is a well-to-do person (according to the story line so far). And lastly..it's not now..it's 2009 (or so). Its Disney - the happiest place on earth..let it go..take your kids..they'll survive - apparently you survived Talking Mirrors, Evil Stepmothers, and beautiful women who fall into a coma after pricking her finger on a spinning wheel...and on and on and on...look how you turned out.. :innocent:

I kinda see where Slim is coming from, as I brought up the same point yesterday, albeit not so harshly. ;)

I would have liked a black princess set somewhere else other than 'Chocoloate New Orleans*' It's just too cliche.

*them's the mayor's words, not mine!

Seems like if they'd made this before Katrina no one would think anything of it...

As a person who has been to New Orleans many, many times over many years, I think it's a great setting. Not because of the hurricane, just because I love the city and think it makes a great backdrop to many "American fairy tale." Or, you know, other movies.

I'm pleased they're going back to hand-drawing, it fills me with nostalgia. But I doubt it'll be any good. The last Disney movie I truly liked was Alladin. But I'm sure the kids will dig it...it is, after all, for them. :innocent:

And while I'm typing, I'll just add: wouldn't it be great if Disney could have a black main character in a Princess film and not give a press release (or otherwise make a big deal) about it? Hmm. Sadly, I have no faith that htis country will ever be that without racism and prejudice.

Yeah that woulda been great. And excellent point btw. Proves how Disney is wanting to milk this 'ooh lookit how diverse we are!!!' angle and I think it stinks.

That day will come.

It'll be not too long after 2038, when there are more Spanish speaking people in the U.S. than English speaking people. Black, Asian, Native American, and especially white, nobody reproduces faster than Spanish speaking people. After that, there'll be no need to discriminate on basis of color or race, only on language.

Is there a term for that? Linguism, maybe? Excuse me... gotta go google something.

well.. spanish speaking people is not a race to start with, so comparing it to blacks, natives and asians is like apples to oranges... 2nd.. not all spanish speaking peoplez have such trends.. spaniards don't, they have a low child birth rate, and they speak spanish..

2.. those offspring of those 'highly reproductive' spanish speaking mothers, go to US schools, they easily forget the spanish, and learn english for their everyday, unless they don't go to school at all..

First off... exactly.

A discriminatory policy that overrides racism would, in effect, end racism. It is apples to oranges, and that's the whole point. (And just for the record... Spaniards are not the Spanish speaking people that are reproducing inside the United States at a rate that will eventually end racism. They're also not reproducing in their own country at a rate that's going to end anything, except their own national identity.... along with the rest of Europe as well.)

2. Those offspring now account for super-inflated budgets for ESL classes in almost all large school districts in the country. Simple numbers are going to dictate that in the future, as we near closer and closer to 2038, there will be public institutions in the U.S. where only Spanish is spoken, at the request of the people, thus negating the need for ESL classes. There will then be a need for SSL (Spanish as a second language) classes for all the people who aren't reproducing fast enough.

2038? wow.. that'd be something, the hear the introduction for the 'Presidente de los Estados Unidos'.. well, I haven't thought bout that, I know that in 2-3 more years spanish speakers are gonna be the biggest economic pie, cuz they will have a huuuge spending power, I don't know if more than other races, but it's gonna be over a billion dollars (actual fact from retail figures, by 2009).. but I never thought about it as a social trendsetter rather than 'giving stuff for free and laws that help illegals'.. but the USC that as u say, their 1st language is or is going to be spanish..

well.. actually the word on the street is that George W Bush is almost fluent in spanish lol

How in the world will spanish speaking people reproducing in America end racism? Obviously you don't know what racism is.
