I believe you get 21 days visa when you arrive at the airport, then if you decide to extend, any travel agent can do the extension for you or you can just do it yourself at the immigration by filling out a form and pay for the visa, I remember i paid 200 pesos. Plan to spend at least two hours and you might pick up your passport with visa extension the next day. bring your passport, your airline tickets.

I also heard that you could do extension at port of entry as well, I am not sure if this is correct or not, but it might be.

That was changed a couple years back to 30 days that you can stay without a visa. If you stay longer than that without a visa then you have to pay a fee at the airport when leaving.

US. Citizens planning to enter and visit the Philippines for 30 days or less do not need a visa prior to travel to the Philippines, provided their U.S. passport is valid and they have a valid return ticket. However, in excess of 30 days, U.S. citizens must either apply for a visa at the nearest Philippine Consular Establishments in the US prior to travel or upon arrival in the Philippines at the Bureau of Immigration(BI), Magallanes Drive, Port Area, Intramuros, Manila, (63-2) 465-2400. Limited services are also available from numerous BI sub-ports in these cities throughout the Philippines.

Take note, you can apply for the extension in other Bureau if Immigration office across the country. So if you are going to other provinces, you can extend your visa there.

More info: http://www.immigration.gov.ph/visa-requirements/non-immigrant-visa/temporary-visitor-visa/visa-waiver

Here are the BI offices:

For visa extension requirements, kindly bring your passport, ticket and submit a filled out visa extension form at any BI offices. You may file for your visa extension application seven (7) days before your Temporary Visitors’ visa expires.

I'm planning a trip to the Philippines from June 6th to July 11 of this year. What do I need to do if I am staying for 30 or more days?

If you are only staying 30 days or less you are good with the 30 tourist visa, if you stay longer pop over to BI with your passport, takes a couple hours. It was a breeze when I did it.
