Green Card approved at the interview, EAD received one day before interview, and SSN quiestion.

Hi everyone! You've been very helpful, I'm pleased to announce you that I was approved yesterday during the interview(AOS), and my online case status just changed to "Card Mailed".

But... the issue is that I received my EAD one day before the interview, I took it to the interview, but the IO returned it to me after the interview was finished... What do I have to do with it? I read somewhere that it is not valid after the green card is approved.

2nd question, Can I get a social security number with my green card and my foreign birth certificate? I've been reading that I would need a foreign passport but I do not have one(it has expired) and I would not like to spend more money on one if it is not necessary.
