Traveling with my kids through San Diego/Tijuana Border?

Hello everyone!

I have a quick question. My husband is living in Tijuana and I'm living in California with my two kids while we wait for this whole i130 process. I came to visit him two days ago and I'll be staying here a week. My question is: Do I need a permit to take the kids out of the country with me? They didn't ask me anything about the kids in San Diego but I'm worried they'll ask for something when I leave with them! What should I do? The consent letter to leave the country costs $86 bucks here in TJ.

Note: My kids ages are 4 & 5 years old.

Help! Has anyone gone through this?

You should be fine as long as you have to passport or birth certificates with you. I've traveled internationally a lot with the kids and I've never been asked for a consent letter...

Or did you mean you a consent letter to leave Mexico? What passports are you traveling on?

Yes I have their passports because they're US citizens just like me but my husband is waiting for his green card so we just come visit. My question is since I will leave in a week I'm afraid they might stop me at the border asking me why I'm taking the kids without my husband or without a consent!! Or should I just tell them that my hubby is in Mexico(Tijuana) and that he allows me to leave....I'm saying if they need proof?

June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!

September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

You won't be talking to any Mexican officials on the way back into the US, only US immigration officers. The US has no requirement that you have anything from the father for the children to enter the US. They might ask you about the father, just as an informational question to confirm the purpose of your trip to Mexico (especially if they you do it frequnetly) or the identity of the children if the passport photos are old, but just explain what you did here. You have the children's passports, they are US citizens-- all is good. As US citizens, they cannot be dened entry into the US.
