My wife (K1 holder) and I got married last September 2015, her Philippine passport will expire this coming August 2016. We filed her AOS about 2 months ago, but have yet to register our marriage at the Philippine Embassy. How do we go about her passport renewal?

From this page, http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#changename, it looks like we need the NSO certificate of our Report of Marriage in the US before we can renew her passport?

Also, the page says "3. Proof that applicant has not applied for foreign citizenship, e.g. resident alien card (green card)." I'm confused by this, does that mean she can't get a new passport if we're applying for AOS? That doesn't make sense.

Would it be easier to just renew her passport under her maiden name for now, just so she has a valid passport until we can get our marriage registered in the Philippines?

Hi! Your last statement is the best option. You can renew her passport on her maiden name without issues. As soon as you have the complete requirements then you can change the passport to her married name.

Would it be easier to just renew her passport under her maiden name for now, just so she has a valid passport until we can get our marriage registered in the Philippines?

I never thought consular passport renewals requires PSA/NSO of the marriage certificate. I thought as long as you report the marriage and have a certified copy of MC they can issue a new passport with married name. I need to take note of this.

Thanks for this post, this will help others that will do name change on their passport after marriage.

You could just renew the passport ... that is the easiest. Just remember to buy the airfare in the name on the passport (and carry a copy of your marriage certificate).

If you are not doing any traveling soon take the time to do the report of marriage, then get the passport in your married name. We did both at the same time during an outreach event.

You need the report of marriage abroad completed, not an NSO copy if you married abroad. This can often be completed at the same time as the renewal of the passport. Its not expensive or difficult. You can also include the NOA1 from the AOS as proof the green card has been applied for when renewing the passport.

I have read that the Embassy/consulate in Washington DC requires that ROM be completed before renewing the passport in the married name. You may want to contact the consulate for your area about this, I know for LA consulate they had no issues doing both at the same time.

Ran into a guy on FB that did them at the same time at the DC consulate 2 years ago. So things may have changed there, or it depends who you end up dealing with when you go there.

We had no issue doing both at the same time during an outreach event for the LA consulate. Greenbaum has noted that they had issue trying to do both at the same time, as have a couple others on here.

Seems stupid for the consulate not to allow doing both together.

I agree its stupid, but when you enter the Philippine consulate or their outreach programs, it is equal to stepping back into the Philippines. You never know what's going to happen until its done.

Chinook and I reported our marriage, Chinook applied to reacquire her Philippines citizenship, and she applied for a Phillipines passport all at he same time at a Philippines Consulate - San Francisco outreach event. It was quick and easy.

If your consulate will not allow you to report your marriage and renew your passport at the same time, I would report the marriage first, then apply for a passport in your married name. That way, you will only have to deal with the consulate twice.

plus the report of marriage abroad can all be done through the mail. A very painless way of completing that step.

^^^ I believe that's true for all of the Philippines Consulates in the U.S.

Also, it should be noted that the report of marriage should be filed with the Philippines Consulate which has jurisdiction over the place you were married.
