My German fiancé and I are sending off our K-1 petition later this month and are (of course) nervous that we have missed something or done something incorrectly. Any help you can give us is tremendously appreciated! Below is our Table of Contents:

Part 1: 1-129F Forms

- Payment in the amount of $340

- Form G-1145

- Form I-129F

- I-129F Supplement: Part 2, Question 34.a, “How We Have Met”

Part 2: G-325A Forms

- G-325A and passport style photo (Petitioner)

- G-325A Supplement: Question “Applicant’s residence last five years”

- G-325A Supplement: Question “Applicant’s employment last five years”

- G-325A and passport style photo (Beneficiary)

- G-325A Supplement: Question “Applicant’s employment last five years”

Part 3: Proof of petitioner citizenship and intent to marry

- Pages from US Passport (Petitioner)

- Letter certifying intent to marry (Petitioner)

- Letter certifying intent to marry (Beneficiary)

Part 4: Proof of having met in person in the last two years

- Pages from German passport (Beneficiary)

- Boarding information for various flights back and forth

- Picture timeline

Part 5: Proof of ongoing relationship

- Selected emails from Beneficiary to Petitioner

- Selected emails from Petitioner to Beneficiary

- Engagement ring receipt

A few questions:

1. How important is it to differentiate between "N/A" and "none"? For example, on the G-325A form, I (the petitioner) don't have an Alien Registration Number, so I wrote "N/A". I think on some other forms my fiancé wrote "N/A" instead of "None".

2. Under the question "List applicant's employment from the last 5 years", what should we write if he was a student? For example, he was a Bachelor's student for three years and then got his first part-time job. Should we list the university as his employer or should we not write that at all and instead say "Unemployed"? He wasn't paid by the university at all.

Thanks very much for all of your great advice! We wish you all luck on your journeys.

Hi,

Looks like you're well organized. Double check:

Everything signed and answered on all forms? Did you copy ALL pages of petitioners passport as proof of citizenship? Name written on the back of passport photos?

For your questions:

1) Maybe somebody has experience on this (I don't), but if the form asks to state "none", I think you should do exactly that. If not, you should leave it blank (what we did for these forms).

2) Most accurate would be to say "student"

Under Employment You need to list only the jobs he had, if he had only one part time job then listed on the first line and the rest just fill them out N/A

They don't need chat logs at this point. They can bring all that to the interview.

Hello all,

Thanks for your detailed replies! Sorry my response is so delayed - we were wrapping up a visit and I sent my fiancé back to his country for awhile. I have our packet ready to mail, but I have just one more minuscule question that perhaps one of you could answer:

Is it ok to send payment on a check that does not have my name and address at the top? I have written maybe 3 checks in my entire life (yikes) and I'm unsure about whether having my information at the top makes the check more credible or likely to be accepted. It's from the first pack my bank gave me, and all the account information is still correct.

Thank you!

1. None is perfectly fine.

2. Being a student is not the same as being employed. If he was unemployed at the time he was a student, you write "UNEMPLOYED".

No, the check needs to have the name and address on the check.

Here is the USCIS requirements for fee payments: https://www.uscis.gov/forms/paying-immigration-fees

Please Note

Personal checks must be pre-printed with the name of the bank and the account holder. Also, the account holder’s address and phone number must be pre-printed, typed or written in ink on the check. All checks must be typed or written in ink.

1. Write the date you are filling out the check including: month, day and year. Important note: Write the date of the check in the U.S. style of month/day/year. (Example: July 4, 2015 or 7/4/15, but not 4/7/15.)
2. On the "Pay to the Order of" line write: "U.S. Department of Homeland Security."
3. Write in numbers the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you are requesting. In the example, the amount is "$595.00."
4. Spell out the exact dollar amount of the fee for the service you are requesting. The "cents" portion of the amount should be written as a fraction over 100. In this example, the amount is "Five hundred ninety-five and 00/100."
5. Write a brief description of the purpose of your payment. In this example, it is "N-400 application fee."
6. Sign the check using your legal signature.
