so i've narrowed it down to a canon powershot.

either the sd700, sd800 is, or sd900

they are all so similar yet slight differences that are driving me mad and making me wonder what is more important.

the sd800 seems like the perfect camera but its made in plastic and by reviews i read, easy to break or scratch.

the other two are made from titanium.

are high megapixels really that important? i do plan to print most at 4x6 but when i have a real WINNER i want to blow it up to at least 8x10 or more.

help! any camera buffs here? :help:

Can't help you with the minute details because I can't be arsed to read about the differences between them. All I can say is don't let anyone talk you out of buying a Canon. Every professional photographer I have worked with will always advise you buy a Canon for a point and shoot home camera. They are the best.

Cant go wrong with any of those mentioned. Try www.epinions.com to find a review or two that might help sway you one direction or the other.

I chose mine (Casio Ex7-something) because of size, SD-memory cards, battery life and the reviews that it took overall pretty decent pictures. It fits in my pocket (which is nice since now I actually take it with me), takes fast shots, even pretty cool videos and I've blown some pictures up that look great.

Have you tried Consumer Reports, they are pretty good about evaluating products.

My husband has the Nikon D50 and he loves it. He researched about 6 cameras and settled on this one.

High megapixel is important, however, it's also a compromise. The higher the megapixel, the less light can be absorbed by the camera. Here comes the tricky part. If you want a high megapixel camera, you need to also find a good lens that comes attached with it.

The Canon SD800IS is an excellent camera. It's a little high in price, but, you will have fun with it. It uses CCD lens which is very sensitive to light nearly garunteeing you the exact color absorbtion. The image stabilizer is new. Obviously, you know what the does. The camera is made from aluminum alloy frame which is lightweight, and also rugged.

I would recommend the Canon SD800IS. If you look for an Olympus with the same MP value as the SD800, it generally is 100 dollars less. This is because the lens they used is low quality. The Nikkor ED lens are also high quality lens. There's a generic brand manufacturer that license the Nikkor ED lens for their product line. It's cheaper than Nikkon S1 or S2 camera by like 100 dollars, but, the quality is better. The range of ISO sensitivity is less compared to the original Nikkon. If you're short on money, look for that generic no name brand that uses the Nikkor ED lens. If you have money, go for the Canon SD800IS.
