A question... What if after you get your green but you want to live and work aboard with your significant partner?

How does it affect your current green card?

Do you just have to apply for your re-entry permit before you go? How long can you stay?

hi

you can apply for a reentry permit that will allow you to be 2 years out of the country

if you want to leave more, then abandon your GC and return when you are ready to live here

the GC is to work and live in the US

but why go through all the hassle to not live here?

Depends on how long you are looking to stay out of the country..If its more than a year then you have to apply for a re-entry permit. Just keep in mind if you think u will want to apply for your citizenship it will affect your application as far as continuous residency is concerned. My advice is to make a infopass appointment at your local uscis office and inquire..
