How to get One Year Extension system changed

I posted this in the ROC (Removal of Conditions) sub-forum, and it was moved here.

I was under impression that the only folks who got 2 year green cards and then the one year extension letter were those who were doing ROC. Thus my thread would only be relevant to those going through the ROC process and not those folks in other immigration categories, which it seems this sub-forum (where my post was moved) is all about. Am I wrong in my understanding ?

Laws are made in Congress. Start there. Understand that a very small part of the population is impacted by this so it will not be a high priority.

Here is the answer you need.

The only way to change the system is for Congress to change it.

You are coming off as rude. You can not demand an answer that you like. Sometimes, the correct answer is not what you may like. If you continue being rude, no one is going to help you.

Did you ever stop and think about where the one year extension letter came from? I'm guessing it was developed because the original processing time could not be met....so they send out a one year extension to buy more processing time. Make sense? Probably at one point it was only taking 3 months or less to process. They had to come up with a way to keep the flow going..

I can't believe how you are responding to the other posters who are trying to give you some answers .

wait til the new president is elected. You probably won't have to say anything. Depending on who is elected....either the USCIS will get busy or processing times will strart to go back to normal with shorter processing times.

As already stated we are a niche community. Congressional change won't likely happen soon, much like getting rid of aos from tourists visa.

I did not post rude replies to anyone who addressed my original post.

I only made sharp replies to the two persons who attempted to hijack the thread by addressing issues which I did not ask.

I am not looking for an answer that I like; only answers that address the question.

Most of the posters did directly address the question.

I doubt that Congress mandated the 8 by 10 paper One Year Extension.

But you are right, Congress could demand that USCIS do something different, like another laminated 2 year Green Card.

If you continue being rude, no one is going to help you.

The issue that I raised was something that could help hundreds or thousands of us; not isolated to myself.

Yes, I think we all understand exactly where the one year extension letter came from.

I am not questioning the need to have some intermediate document to bridge the gap between the first

2 year Green Card and the 10 year Green Card.

I am only pointing out how the 8 by 10 piece of paper has caused grief for many, many of us; and how that can be changed.

The 8 by 10 piece of paper would cause problems for many of us, even if the processing times were back to a 'normal' 3 month period. Doesn't matter the length; it is still a problem.

I'll say this as respectfully as I can. When one comes on the boards and says "please only post" in regards to answers I think that it needs to be remembered by all that this is a free forum where we can express any answer we choose providing it's not completely off the board in topic to answer (hey my cat ate fish sticks today, etc) or disrespectful/abusive.

I see what you're trying to do, but in this case it's often more productive to just scroll past any answers that you don't necessarily want to hear. We all have a voice here and are free to use it.

And what do you have to say to those who accuse me of being rude to those who 'answered my question' when in fact the only people I was sharp toward were those who did no such thing?

See, you claim to be here for opinions but looks like you have some preferred opinions. You want to hear someone repeat what you wanna then you asked in the wrong place.

Congress in fact mandates it. People affected by this can complain to USCIS, etc but it is your Congressmen and women who have the final say.

I don't know if you've worked in a government agency (state or federal) before. But if you have , you would know that, even making some things on application forms takes an action of Congress.

At my workplace which is a state agency, when customers complain about certain forms and certain requirements, we only refer them to our boss who explains to them to take it to their representatives..

Government agencies are so regulated that to make the smallest change in the system would require approval from Congress.

So your answer, is Congress. Find a congress man or woman on Immigration committee and bark at him or her.

As other pointed out - appreciate difference of opinion and also it is useless exercise if "you only want to hear someone repeat what you wanna then you asked in the wrong place".

Feel free to start with Congress. If you are approaching them, please ask them to deport the immigrants whose marriages fail but apparently they are allowed to ROC and AOS. Similar to employment based greencards, the process should be consistent; once you lose the job, you are required to leave the country and have no right to immigration. Further, please add to the request to revoke "marriage based" greencards altogether and change everything to employment based. Let the immigrant come to US of A and prove that there are contributors to economy/society.

Please understand that the burden is on you to prove your legal status (and to make various agencies understand that you are legal resident).

These agencies are the ones that develop the forms, etc.

For instance, the IRS is the place that all the tax forms are developed.

Congress establishes the tax code, and then IRS is the place where all the procedures are laid out as to how to comply with the tax laws.

I am not looking for support of an opinion I already have, but I will respond to others' opinions that I think are not valid.
