Please, I need your advice. My fiance is a Nigerian living in Ghana, I did apply for him to have the interview in Ghana thinking he will fix his residence there, he didn't yet. Please, can somebody tell me which is the fastest and cheapest way to get the Resident Permit in Ghana? We are already in NVC waiting for his interview being scheduled.

Thank you in advance, Tasha

The embassy will return your case to NVC as soon as they receive the case if he doesn't have residence in Ghana. If the consular is nice and able to approach, your case also can be transfer to embassy which in your fiancé's natianality country. You cannot apply K1 in a foreign country. I did same thing. I did resident in a foreign country but I did not have residence visa/permit. For my case, they visa in the end delayed about 5 months. Because it costs several months to transfer between different embassy.

Thank you. What is it if we do his Resident Permit before his interview? I heard it takes about 10 days to get it.

Tasha

I would like to know if somebody did the Resident Permit and how much did it cost in time and money.

Thank you, Tasha

Yes, he can get his residence permit done.. He just needs to walk into the immigration office in Ghana.. He'll have to pay a fees and they will want to see his passport and I believe maybe they might ask for police clearance.. But it's very possible for him to have it within a quick time frame

Tasha

I was afraid they will return his file to NVC and it's a denial and starting another visa again

Even if he will not get the actual permit in time for the interview, if you can show that he applied it is enough for some embassies.

Ghana being one of the toughest may not recognize a recent application only, worth a try though.

Thank you so much. It makes me feel better. I got very sick and can't help him with money, we even did think about to reschedule the interview once we get one but maybe we do it at time, trying to think here.

I would love to tell that they will just issue the permit, but Ghana doesn't work that way nothing is free, so even after paying the fees for the permit if your husband doesn't have a middle man or someone in the office who will help him with and you bestow upon them a helpers fee he won't get it, I'm sorry but unfortunately this ishow it works their, I was just there in January and did my stuff for a resident permit and the person who signs the permit wouldn't because I didn't pay them a fee also ?, so it's along story but me my husband have a new middle man so next time I'm there I will get it I only had two days left before I was leaving when they pulled this stunt

Thank you so much for your advice, I do know how the bureaucracy works in Ghana. The thing is I did explain my fiance before filing about the Resident Permit and ti file better in his country Nigeria but he assured me he will do it right away and fast once I file the K1 visa, for some reason he did not, now we are in NVC waiting for his interview and he tells me he needs to do it and it cost money he doesn't have. I understand that but now the new problem, I am very sick, was 5 days in ER and now the doctors, nurse, I don't have any money to send him at this point and I hope somehow he will work more and get his paperwork done. In the mean time, I am hoping to heal fast, still make some money working or borrowing and to travel to his interview which is very important, giving him the support with my presence and all original documents from my side. I hope we will make it even if we will need to reschedule his interview for later.

Long distance relationship and waiting are not easy and when there are some problems, lots of misunderstandings. I think many of us waiting and trying to be together are aware is not easy and not fast. Good luck to us all!

Can he not work and make the money instead of you ? How did he get to Ghana ?

Hopefully he will handle his responsibilities as a man and not rely on you to pay for everything.

He should have done it sooner and may screw it all up now having procrastinated getting the permit in time.

If the visa is refused then you have to start all over again, so postponing the interview may be a wiser decision so he can come up

with the money and permit.

I am sorry you are sick and stressed, draw your boundaries with what you can and can't do and heal up well enough to travel to the interview.

Try to get to the root for the many misunderstandings as they tend to continue here if you don't head into the same vision and direction

for your lives.

Thank you so much for your such a realistic advice!

I do understand you and I did tell my fiance exactly the same, I hope he does his own documents part at time showing me he is a responsible man. I hope so. For now I do give him the benefit of doubt because it's a different background, culture or maybe his work, his kid support, I do hope he will do everything needs to be done and at time.

Again, thank you so much for your advice, you are right about fixing any misunderstandings better now than later.

Hi, I am sorry. I do not know much about situation in Ghana. However, in my case, they did transfer my files back to NVC after the embassy received it. The consulate in embassy also contacted me and noticed me that I do not qualified to apply immigration visa in this country. K1 visa is non-immigration visa, but lots of embassy deal it like an immigration visa. So in my case, they did not give me the chance to explain any situation. They made decision by the information they got.

Thank you to all of you for the advice, we do work together on our K1 visa. My fiance didn't tell me but he applied to his Resident Permit already and he does all his documents by himself, almost everything is ready for the interview. Getting sick made me more nervous and I am worrying too much. Now my goal is getting better and travel to be in Ghana for his interview.

Again, thanks to all!
