I-751 April 2016 Filers

Hello everyone. I've been reading for a while but haven't had a chance to greet everyone. Anyway, I've updated the google doc with my status. I'm an April filer at CSC. I just checked my status this morning and my new card is being produced now. So I'll probably get it next year after me and my husband come back from our vacation. Good start of the year!

There's still a backlog from December but at least 2016 approvals are rolling in. Couple more months and early April filers will start rejoicing. I filled at the tail end of April so I'm thinking I'll be among the last waiting.

And I'll be right there waiting with you. I'm going to do the best I can to get citizenship application in at the beginning of April 2017. Gotta get taxes done early so I can get those transcripts!

Then we're DONE with USCIS. Oh how I will celebrate that day.

"USCIS is funded almost entirely by fees. Read our Oct. 24 news release about our first fee increase in 6 years, which is needed to recover the full cost of services. These include the costs associated with fraud detection and national security, customer service and case processing, and providing services without charge or fee waivers and exemptions for those who are eligible."

This so burns me. It's not OUR fault that it is taking over one year for VSC filers. And now we are stuck with 1) not really getting anything for our $505 ROC fee, and 2) we are having to pay $45 more for our N-400 fee.

I guess we'd be stuck with the N-400 increase no matter what - but I do feel like the government has been getting an interest-free loan on our $505!!!!

I'm also waiting for my green card and there is no news still. I'm a waiver and my case is in Vermont. Soo, I'm trying to get used to the fact that waiting time will be longer for me

Does 1 year extension from NOA1 count for citizenship application eligibility?

I know they require 3 years for a PR holder to be eligible for N400 application for marriage based case.

However, I was under impression that one still had to wait another year AFTER I-751 is approved.

Yes it counts. As a matter of fact, a lot of people file N400 with ROC petition still pending. That's what I as well as  lucybelle intend to do. 

 

@lucybelle: I had a scare over the weekend. Was going through the checklist for N400 and thought that failing to register with the Selective Service would doom me. I remember getting the forms back in 2005 when I first filed for AOS but I didn't remember sending it in. Actually, I was quite certain I did not send it in. Great disappointment was setting in until I checked online. As it turned out, I sent the forms in...dodged a bullet missile there .

B. Selective Service Registration

1. Males Required to Register

In general, males must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday but not after reaching 26 years of age. The U.S. government suspended the registration in April of 1975 and resumed it in 1980. An applicant who refused to or knowingly and willfully failed to register for Selective Service negates his disposition to the good order and happiness of the United States, attachment to the principles of the Constitution, good moral character, and willingness to bear arms on behalf of the United States. ^[6]

Applicants may register for Selective Service at their local post office, return a Selective Service registration card received by mail, or online at the Selective Service System website. ^[7] Confirmation of registration may be obtained by calling (847) 688-6888 or online at www.sss.gov. The officer may also accept other persuasive evidence presented by an applicant as proof of registration.

USCIS assists with the registration process by transmitting the appropriate data to the Selective Service System (SSS) for male applicants between the ages of 18 and 26 who apply for adjustment of status. After registering the eligible male, Selective Service will send an acknowledgement to the applicant that can be used as his official proof of Selective Service registration.

2. Failure to Register for Selective Service

USCIS will deny a naturalization application when the applicant refuses to register with Selective Service or has knowingly and willfully failed to register during the statutory period. ^[8] The officer may request for the applicant to submit a status information letter and registration acknowledgement card before concluding that he failed to register.

The status information letter will indicate whether a requirement to register existed. The applicant must show by a preponderance of the evidence that his failure to register was not a knowing or willful act. ^[9] Failure on the part of USCIS or SSS to complete the process on behalf of the applicant, however, will not constitute a willful failure to register on the part of the applicant.

The denial notice in cases where willful failure to register is established may also show that in addition to failing to register, the applicant is not well disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States. This determination depends on the applicant’s age at the time of filing the application and up until the time of the oath:

He said it hasn't even been assigned to an officer yet. He told me to expect a letter explaining the delays January 20 even though he said he will put in a service request for me.

 

I don't know what to say, I think we should just say a prayer for VSC.

April filer here. Felt like I was back of the line, but checked today (my birthday) to find that my card was mailed on 30th December. A weight off my shoulders.

I filed the 29th of April (CSC). At this point, I'd be happier getting an RFE than nothing at all. I came here on a DCF, I wonder if that's the reason why mine takes so long. Do you guys think a congressional inquiry will make it any faster? Thank you.
