We're just suggesting reasons for it. Standard security checks due to country and possible other reasons.

I understand, and I completely appreciate all of your feedback guys. We are completely in the dark, so any input is both helpful and very welcome.

Surprisingly, they didn't ask my wife at all about her college degree or work history during the interview. I find it odd that they put her on AP for that. Shouldn't they show some interest in that if they needed to review it further.

No one said she was put in AP specifically because of her degree or work history, relax. No one can tell you why she is AP other than for security checks. The consulate and DOS do not tell anyone what exactly is done during these checks. If you sit around trying to guess exactly why she has AP you'll be here for a thousand years. The fact of the matter is Egypt is a "T" country and everyone from the Middle East and other "T" countries are put under extra scrutiny. You and your wife are not being singled out. With the events going on in our world it makes sense for the security of our country and our citizens that immigration is vigilant and leaves no stone un-turned. My husband had 10 weeks of AP and we had no problem it, it was what it was and sitting around stressing about it would have done no good. As far as we were concerned he got off easy with only 10 weeks.

A real life friend of mine married a man from Egypt in July of 2011 and she sent his petition within 2 weeks of their marriage, he was in AP until 10 days ago and arrived 3 days ago in the US. Yes, he had over 4 years of AP. They never found out the reason for his AP. First marriage for both of them, they knew each other 2 years prior to marrying and spent a lot of time in real life together before and after the marriage, they are the same age. The only so called red flag they had was that she is Christian and he is Muslim.

Thank you for your input. When did your husband have his interview?

As long as you disclosed everything on your petition, your fine there. Its unusual for a woman to be put in AP, but we will see a lot more of that after the December killings in San Bernardino, Ca. with one of the terrorist with links to ISIS being a woman.

Maybe its time to contact your congressman and have them inquire on the issue.

Today I called my congressman's office and asked for assistance to inquire on our case. They didn't seem surprised as if they get lots of calls of that sort. Any idea guys on:

How long would it take to hear about the result of the inquiry?

What is the usual outcome of Congressman's inquiries?

Is it possible for inquiries to delay processing our case?

Given that our interview was about three weeks ago, is it too soon for a congressman to inquire on case?

1. It depends on how busy they are and also if there are working on similar cases. It's also an election year. This is a good question to ask the elected official.

2. They usually ask about the status of the case and what is holding it up. If it has been a long time. They will tell the consulate to make a decision.

3. This will not delay your case. It may actually speed it up if your elected official asked them to make a decision.

4. They ask that you wait at least 60 days before making an inquiry.

Three weeks is way too early. Security checks takes time and it is done in DC. The embassy have nothing to do with it. They are only notified of the results.

Here is the reply I received from my Congressman's office today:

"Congressman xxxxxxx has reached out to the US Embassy in Cairo, We'll let you know immediately what we learn, we'll push as hard as we can"

All I want to know is what's happening with our case behind closed doors. I don't mind waiting a few months if they told me what they are doing. Why can't the embassy simply say they will do background checks if that's what they are doing instead of putting us under the dreaded AP status.

They will tell you it is in AP.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
