May I ask, were you born here? If not, how did you obtain your citizenship?

Through five years of permanent residence in the US, I became a citizen on 2011. Does it make a difference that I was naturalized? Thanks

You should be fine after AP is completed. If they return your petition to USCIS you would have the chance to address any issues with a response

to a NOID/NOIR letter later.

The reason you are more scrutinized is that USC accept payment for fraudulent immigration benefits and relatively quick marriages and subsequent

divorces and then another marriage to another foreigner can be a fraud indicator. If your marriage is genuine than there is nothing to worry about.

Not to mention that Egypt almost always means AP for weeks or months.

Thank you for your input. My daughter's CRBA was approved a few months ago without question. The CRBA interview was a breeze and we received our daughter's CRBA and US passport very fast. It didn't come to mind that my wife would face any issues getting her visa since our daughter was approved previously.

Our marriage was in Egypt and was a big one; more than 500 (yes, five hundred) people attended, and It's all on video with thousands of professional photographs.

Is it common for US embassy to return applications to USCIS and how long does the process take on average? For example, If the application is returned to USCIS and then it approves it, Will USCIS then move the application back to NVC then embassy again for an interview?

Thank you

I too am unsure how your first wife could be a USC already if you were divorced a year after she arrived. Getting a green card in 2012 and divorce in 2013, means the earliest she could get citizenship was 2017. Unless it was a vawa case.

My first has been living in the US for a very long time but never became a legal resident (she was on tourist visa then overstayed). So She had her interview at the local USCIS office. So first wife was already in the states and had her conditional greencard on 2012 and we divorced in 2013. She obtained US citizenship fast through joining the US Army. This was never about VAWA. So you can see the government had no doubt about my first marriage (which is why first wife became a citizen without a question). And my current marriage is absolutely real and my wedding in Egypt, as mentioned before, was huge with more than 500 people present (captured on video and photographs). I appreciate your input on this.

Okay thanks for answering all the questions. I know they seem personal but it helps us sometimes get a better idea of what's going on. I forgot that military also get expedited citizenship status.

If the embassy were going to return the file they probably would have denied you and then started the process to do so already. That generally takes about 6 months. Then the USCIS looks at your file again, will ask for information, and if approved again by them, it goes straight to the embassy for another interview. You'd likely need another I-864, medical, and police clearance, but you get to skip the NVC again.

I do agree that women from middle eastern and south asian countries are now more likely to get put into AP because of recent issues, not just in the USA but around the globe.

I wish you the best and hope the AP is quick.

It does happen that petitions are returned, the higher the fraud level is in a country, the higher the return.

The return process can take 9-12 months and sometimes more.

Embassy returns petition > USCIS sends NOID/NOIR letter (sometimes they reaffirm w/o a letter) > petitioner responds within 30 days > USCIS either denies or reaffirms and sends petition back to NVC who sends it to the embassy for second interview (or no further interview).

I think you should not worry about a return, sounds you just have regular security/background checks going on which is pretty

standard for Egypt and for females now as well due to recent events.

Wow I didn't know that.

Yes it can, they will take a deeper look.

Surprisingly, they didn't ask my wife at all about her college degree or work history during the interview. I find it odd that they put her on AP for that. Shouldn't they show some interest in that if they needed to review it further.

No, they have their standard security checks which has nothing to do with asking /answering questions most of the time.

They also won't disclose to you what they are checking.
