Imiigration Visa as work permit

Hi people, I just want to ask if the immigrant visa stamped in the passport can be considered as a work permit? I haven't received my green card ID from the mail and I am wondering if I can use my visa to apply for work? I already have an SSN. Thanks

Yes, it will evidence that you are a legal resident of the US. You don't need a "work permit" since you are a lawful permanent resident and therefore allowed to work.

The "immigrant visa" became invalid the moment you entered the US. However, you became a permanent resident the moment you entered the US, and upon being stamped on entry, the immigrant visa turned into an I-551 (green card) valid for one year from the date of entry (regardless of when the "visa" expires). As a permanent resident, you can work freely. For I-9 purposes, the temporary green card that the immigrant visa turned into serves as a List A document.
