Change of Name in I-485

I am in the end stages of a K-1 visa.

I'm a USC and I will be changing my name to adopt my fiance's name once we're married.

Since we plan to file the AOS as soon as possible after marriage I wanted to know what name to put for the USC in the I-485. The beneficiary is keeping their name but it still asks for mine.

I suppose the real question might also be, when does a name change? When you get married and indicate that you will be changing your name or when you go to the social security and DMV offices to change the name?

You should put your new name on the AOS. The marriage certificate is the legal name change proof. You don't change your name legally at DMV or SSA, you merely update them of your new name using your marriage certificate.

It's best to have your new name on SSN before you send out your docs.

I had changed my name on an application and the system didn't recognize my new name, the system prompted me that they will be verifying my new name with SSA . if I hadn't changed it at SSA, I would be causing a delay.
