Hello everyone,

(K1 visa) February 18th 2016 we went to apply for a SSN and we thought everything went well. Well, it's been more than 4 weeks and still nothing. I called and they said they had to send in some documents and it would take max 40 days (they said they sent it in on March 14). While I was looking at the piece of paper they gave me the day I applied for SSN I saw that the guy at the office wrote that my passport expiration date is 01/07/2014!! What are we supposed to do? We're planning on going to the office tomorrow and point out the problem we but don't want to risk delaying anything any further. Would they be able to fix it by sending copies of my passport (is that what they've been doing?)

My husband and I have had a lot of experience with a delayed SSN. In our case, it was because his name was too long and was cut off on the I-94. Did the agent incorrectly write down the wrong date of expiration for your passport?

Yes. He wasn't even looking at his keyboard while writing down the dates.. I'm going to the office today to clear it up, but I'm hoping that the current delay is because they already noticed the mistake and have been trying to solve it

I definitely suggest going to the office, and when you do, request to speak to a supervisor. A lot of the times, these state employees are incompetent, but the supervisor should know more. If they cannot fix it, they will claim it's out of their hands and they can't do anything because they sent the information for verification to DHS. If you call USCIS, they won't have any information, because the department that works on social security cards does not have an open line to the public. We had to involve our congressman to get our SSN faster, and even then, it took over 6 weeks.
