Hi all, due to a family tragedy we were forced to pause the visa process after the interview and during Administrative Processing for additional documents. We petitioned to reopen the case in September and recently the case finally went back to Ready.

I am positive that I will be granted a visa in a few weeks.

During the 2-year duration we may have had some babies here in Canada. We have gone to the consulate and gotten them US passports. Am I going to have an issue at the border if I go through with children and no reference to them on my visa documentation?

"May have had some babies"

Strange

Anyway, if questioned why not tell the truth? The children do require visas and the initial petition was long ago before the babies were born. Nothing wrong with that story, it is quite logical actually.

Good luck

You would have thought you would know?

Maybe a sponsorship issue?

I would prefer to publicly neither confirm nor deny that this is the case until my visa is in hand.

Thanks, yes, the truth is what I am planning on. I just want to be prepared for any other paperwork necessary. We all know how much they like their paperwork.

You'll probably find that you get more accurate answers to your requests for help if you provide the full facts.

Why not just state that you have had children? It's not a crime for a married couple to have children.

Anyway, if the children qualify for US passports then there is no issue. They are able to freely enter the USA. If they do not have US citizenship, then the situation is different. Hence the need for facts.

If they were marginal on the I-864, they may not qualify with a couple of kids and are worried it will come up??? Or maybe the work situation totally changed and they no longer qualify at all if they need a new I-864. Or lost a co-sponsor they would require if they had to revisit the I-864.

Typo. If, as you say, the possible children have US passports then they may travel freely between the U.S. and Canada (assuming they also have Canadian citizenship)

Further, since your circumstances have changed, this needs to be documented at the interview as it will likely up the required amount for sponsorship. Go to your interview with an updated I864

Thanks all for this helpful information. As I said above, the interview was already done, supporting documents were submitted, and "Administrative Processing" on the CEAC website has changed to "Ready," which my searches have revealed is the usual next step before decision and approval.

I am not worried about receiving my visa.

I wonder if at the border the customs agent will expect to see children listed on my paperwork.

Thanks all. I just got notice they want a fully updated the DS-260 and that covers children, so we will see where things go from there.

As a bonus, they've asked me for a brand new medical, so another 11-hour drive to Montreal and $300 bill? Ugh, I hate these people.

And if you are not sure, what do you do then?
