Questions about the "appointment package".

Found out this morning during a phone call to the NVC, that my wife's case has been completed and will eventually be sent to the Ankara embassy.

Been a pretty good day around these parts........ :)

Anyways.....I have a question about the package I was told by the operator this morning, that will be mailed to me, since I am the "agent". I have read on the State Dept website what it consists of...

1) appt letter

2) DS-230 part2

3) Instructions for the medical

I believe there were a few other instructions, etc..

My question is.............will all this have to be "mailed" to my wife in Istanbul? I am a bit confused because one operator told me that I would need to mail it, and another told me I could fax everything to my wife. (I called back later in the day........sorry to tie up all the NVC lines for everyone else, but had a few more questions ;) .....In my excitement this morning, I don't think I processed all the information very well. )

I'm much calmer now, though. B)

Just want to get information from others regarding their experience with this. Does that package from the NVC have documents that HAVE to be mailed, .......or did everyone else fax them? Seems to me that the DS-230 part 2 should not be "faxed". Not sure why the operator told me that it could be. Wouldn't it have some kind of markings on it now, from the NVC, so they could tell at the embassy that it wasn't "doctored" in transition? I find it hard to believe that I could just "fax" everything to my wife, rather than mail it.

If I do indeed have to mail it, what is the best...quickest.....and mainly, SAFEST way to send such information "overseas"? I know I could try the USPS as was suggested in another reply in a different thread, but that package was going to New Hampshire. This one, will have to go "overseas". Wouldn't another service like FEDEX have more experience delivering mail overseas? I would tend to trust a privately run organization, than a government run one.......... so , just wondering, if it does have to be mailed, how everyone else did it? Who do you trust the most when it comes to delivering mail overseas?

When I sent my last package to the NVC, I used UPS, but don't want to use them again, because they had the wrong "zip code" for the NVC in their national directory (the computer database they use to get info on where to mail things). The zip for the NVC was 03801-2909 ....their computer kept giving me 03801-2901. I debated with them that they had the wrong zip, they told me they couldn't change it....and eventually I went home, wondering if maybe "I" was wrong, or there was a typo by the NVC when they sent me the "bar code cover letter" and address. I then went home, checked the computer and looked up the address...and all of them said 03801-2909.

I had to drive back to UPS, demand they change it before they mailed my package.....and they had to manually overide the computer. Took them several minutes, but they eventually changed the address. I don't trust using them again.

So, I'm open for mailing suggestions, and any other info regarding the "appointment package" that anyone can give.

Thanks.

That's an idea. I know that even the embassies and consulates use them to mail the visas, don't they? So, if they trust them enough to use their services (DHL).......they can't be all bad. I've never used them before, so don't know anything about them. I guess , when you think about it, there aren't THAT many companies that do business in this field..........besides FEDEX...UPS...and DHL....and the post office.....can't really think of any others.

Does anyone have any information about the first part of the question and the "appointment package"?

Personally, I wouldn't fax. The package will also contain the forms for the medical. In my case the consulate mailed the appointment packet to hubby in the US  so he scanned them and emailed to me. Mistake, as the doctors office wouldn't accept the scanned copies even though they didn't look much different. Luckily they had extra forms on hand.

Information you get from those that answer the phones unfortunately don't always give out the correct information.

I agree with everything you said. I'm set on mailing it......to be safe.(don't want any issues coming up, like you had with the medical).

I was wondering , though.........you said the "consulate" mailed the appointment package? Did you mean the NVC? Or do consulates actually mail the appointment packages as well, instead of the NVC, all the way to the USA from overseas in some cases ? (Australia might do things differently than Turkey) I assume because your husband was the agent....and because the NVC does not schedule the appointments for Australia like they do for Turkey?

Still seems like a long (and from Australia...we are talking looooooong!) and roundabout way of doing things, when they could have just mailed it to you from within Australia. ;)

Yes. Been to their website many times. Problem with the Ankara website, is most of the information seems geared toward people who are getting visas through them directly from Turkey. It's almost like they've forgotten about the rest of us who are applying from here in the states.

Still, .......some of it is helpful, so you're right , in that it's always a good idea to check the websites for the particular embassy/consulate you will be going through.
