Great points made...I feel less racist now

I personally love (and in many ways am quite jealous of) natural black hair

I thought the Viking made it here first?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I want to say Spike Lee brought it out when he was arguing about gentrification in his old neighborhood. That's how it became a popular term. I think there's a list of things that folks out together to show how many things started within the black community but wasn't considered popular until they were "discovered".

that whole list just through me way off. i'm familiar with the term columbusing but it seems to me that most items on this list are simply trends that will rise and fall with popular culture. for as long as i can remember, timberlands have been fashionable. and the slang term 'bae' i've only ever heard little white girls use - and fairly recently, bae isn't a new word? and just because whole foods tries to market collard greens as the next best thing or whatever, doesn't mean that it's been columbused. collard greens and hamhocks are a southern staple. rap music was columbused - and in the early nineties. i feel like the examples given in this list are just a list of trends found in pop culture. i mean, i remember gwen stefani wearing the knot hairstyle back when i was in highschool. but then i guess no doubt was columbusing ska. meh..
