Hello everyone. My fiance and I ( the petitioner) are getting ready to file the fiance visa. We have consulted a lawyer and their office made it seemed like we would better off hiring them for this process. Our case is not very complicated. We are both never been married and we dont have any children. I am finishing school and I would be starting a career soon. The only problem I see is the documents required to show proof of legitimate relationship. You see , my fianceand I have known each other for 10 years from our home country. We started dated in 2006 but we actually broke up after I moved in this country in the same year . We saw each other again when I returned home in 2013. We did not start dating back again until January 2016. I have ot been home since 2013. But I am going to see him in this May. We have both realized that we have always loved each other and we are certain that we want to get married. My trip in May is sort of a way to make our engagement official. I heard that the immigration does not care about people feelings. They just want to make sure that the relationship is legit. We are ready to provide letter of references from family members and close friends who were aware of this relationships from the beginning. I hear different opinions regarding the process. Some say it is easy ; others have other ideas. And I am beginning a very demanding career as well. I guess I was wondering if you think we have enough to make our case to prove the truthfulness of relationship? Should we hire a lawyer or not? And what other advice do you have in general.

Thank

Someone just asked the same question. See above thread. You can do it yourself. The guides here are a valuable tool. Research by reading the guides, forums, and ur country portal. My friend hired a lawyer who messed everything up and she ended up firing him and joining VJ.

bring the forms you need the beneficiary to sign and then take back with you in May saves time and postage. If you plan ahead and research it saves alot of hassle.

No lawyer can make any impact relative to the legitimacy of a relationship. Do some homework on your Embassy. I do know that NIgeria for example is an extremely difficult one for K-1s.

Front loading your petition would most likely be warranted. The reference letters you mention can help but they are not proof enough (I could send you a reference letter and we've never met, get the picture). Make sure those letters are notarized. You will want to submit written evidence the shows the evolution of your relationship, obviously there may be little from 10 years ago but present day communications will work. Content is key. They will want to see what you guys talk about, and hopefully it is seriously relationship stuff.

IMO a lawyer would be of no help to your case.
