Welp. The long hard Visa Journey is finally over.

Debriefing:

I arrived at Cadman Plaza District Court at 8am just like the oath letter said. The first thing that happened is they took my phone away, which was sad. Luckily, I brought 3 entire newspapers (the AM, natch) and I made ample use of all of them, including their Ken-Ken games. They were a bit old--from early and mid-November, so basically full of Trump and Clinton stories--but they kept me entertained for what was a rather long wait.

I digress. There were people arriving late, well after 9am in some cases. Which turned out to be fine! So now you know: Cadman Plaza District Court folks, the time on your oath letter barely matters. They expect some people to arrive really late and will let you in after 9. So don't feel compelled to get up at 5:30am for no reason.

Anyway, they began calling people up to do their initial processing checking everyone's oath letters for errors and whatnot at around 9am and it was FIFO (first in first out). Then we settled in for an hourlong wait to wait for the judge to grace us with his presence. This is when I put my Ken-Ken skillz to good use. I was able to totally dominate two of the Ken-Kens. I also quickly skimmed the papers, which as I said contained mostly old news. I was, however, happy to read the movie review sections with care. I concluded I would attempt to watch the movie "Loving" in around 17 years, when our son is off to college. Put that one on the list.

Then the judge came, had us all repeat the Oath, and then, unexpectedly, had us all repeat the pledge of allegiance. Surprise! I'm not sure I was okay with it. I am happy to declare allegiance to the Constitution, as in the Oath, but to the flag? What does it even mean to pledge allegiance to a flag? I've never liked the pledge of allegiance and maybe I didn't do enough research, but nowhere did I read that we would have to also recite the pledge of allegiance. Maybe mountains out of molehills, but I think I'd have liked to have been warned. Ah, well.

So anyway, the judge then said some more stuff--or was that before the Oath and pledge? I forget--and then we filed forward again, FIFO, to get our certificates of naturalisation, sign them, and then get out. I got my phone and it was 10:45am. I took a selfie, and I came out looking like in my profile picture, perhaps a bit more clothed. Then I got on the bus and went to a Mexican restaurant because I was starving.

I did file an online request to get a copy of the Oath Ceremony notice. The website says I should get a response by Jan 11th.

Happy Holidays and best wishes to those who became a citizens and the ones still waiting out in the cold!!! :) :) :)

Received my Notice of Oath Ceremony in the mail today scheduled for January 13, 2017. It's been over 2 months since my interview until I got my oath letter. My journey to become American Citizen is almost over. Thanks for all the helpful input.  It's not a dream anymore, it's a reality !  Now the only thing I worry about is paying for my passport because now I'm broke. LOL !!!

I had my interview last week in NYC. My only status message now says " USCIS has scheduled your oath ceremony and will mail you the appointment notice. " is this how your status message was 1 weeks after your interview?

Congratulations.

And yes, I had this status for about  5 weeks after the interview.

Then I got my status updated to "Oath Ceremony Notice mailed"

and the letter arrived in just four days.

Time between interview and oath ceremony - a bit over 2 months.

Win55, which is your county? because on jan 11th i passed my interview and next day my online status says "oath ceremony notice was mailed" but i dont see any pdf in online account yet..

I believe they're from NYC. Congrats on getting your mailed. Mine still say it's been schedule, but they'll mail it soon.

It feels great to be able to call myself a US Citizen :)
