Today was my interview at USCIS offices in Houston, TX, I was scheduled at 7:15am arrived at 7 on the dot, but didn't get called until about 35-45 minutes later. I took the time to go over my naturalization questions. When I was called the officer greeted me and we walked to her office. She asked for three forms of id's, my DL, Green Card, and Passport/s. She made me swear, and then I took I seat.

She asked me about a total of 6 questions,

1. Name one branch or part of the government?

2. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?

3. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

4. We elect a US senator for how many years?

5. If the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes president?

For the English speaking and writing portion she made me read a question, When is Columbus day? and then recited the answer to me which I had to write in English to prove I can read and write it well.

Then she went on and asked me all the n-400 yes or no questions I had answered when I sent in my application, such as if had any felonies, terrorist or communist affiliation, if I am willing to bear arms to defend the U.S. etc.

I filed based on the 3-year marriage rule and she asked me if I am still married, what my husband's full name is, how many children we had and if the children were both mine and his or mine and someone else's. She also asked if he or I had ever been married before, which in my case no, neither of us have been married before, but I assume that for other people who have been married prior they ask for the marriage certificate and divorce records. I also took my, my husband's and our children's birth certificates, our marriage certificate, and tax records for past 3 years, but she didn't ask for any of it, it was more about me answering her questions.

Lastly, I requested a legal name change, I originally sent in my n-400 form requesting to take my husband's last name, however, I changed my mind 2 weeks ago, so during the interview I dropped my first name and changed my middle name be my first and kept my last name and husband's last name, yes I took two last names. I've always gone by my middle name so having my first name was useless. She changed the request on the computer, so she asked me to double check my name change request on the iPad which showed my real name, aliases, and new name exactly how I wanted it. Finally, I had to review my date of birth, home address, phone number, and sign about 3 slides, the last slide being the official oath and I believe that was it. She checked off all my answers and recommended me for approval and gave me the printout. I thanked her and then walked out to the waiting area, where I sat and waited for about 30 more minutes to receive my oath ceremony appointment. All in all, it took about 30 minutes from the moment I went in.

***Make sure you don't leave after the interview, you still have to wait to get your oath ceremony appointment letter*** I'm saying this because some people left after their interviews, some officers kept calling the same names over and over meaning those people left without their oath ceremony appointments.

My oath ceremony is scheduled for next week 11/16, I will need to bring the oath ceremony appointment letter along with the questionnaire they give you, already answered and signed. I also asked about the name change certificate and she said that it's a complete legal name change issued by the court so I do not need to do anything else, I can use it to go change my s.s. card, DL, and other legal matters. So for those that are wondering or wanted to change your names (first, middle, or last) you can do whatever you want as long as they agree is not something crazy. It didn't delay my process or made it difficult, it was easy and convenient. I hear if you want to change your name later it's a bit more difficult going through the courts and very expensive, just fyi.

I took the oath ceremony in 2013 in Houston also...

Carefully review the oath ceremony letter... i think i remember it saying that you can provide the answers... but NOT to sign until you get there?

just an FYI - perhaps i am mistaken, but wanted to make sure you double check...
