I had my interview on Sept. 02. Everything went smoothly. The IO was nice. He went through the paperwork with me to see if anything was changed. He asked me what does the president's cabinet do? How long do we elect a US senator, what did the declaration of Independence do and I can't remember what else. The interview wasn't long. He recommended my case approval same day. I received a text ans E-mail telling me I was in line for oath ceremony on Sept. 13th and I September 14th, I received a text stating that I was scheduled for an oath ceremony. When I receive the letter I'll update as to the date.

In case anyone was wondering I applied under the 3 year rule.

I just want to tell the group I got my US passport. I'm just waiting for my registration voting card. Tomorrow I will apply for my son's us passport (He is 9 years old) . He is a green card holder. With my Naturalization certificate and my US passport he should be able could get his.

I just had my naturalization ceremony yesterday in a District Court in Memphis, TN. Everything went well. The ceremony was supposed to start at 8:30 am but they were running a little late. They started calling everyone in at around 9:10 am and a court personnel handed over a package to everyone and told them to go sit at an already assigned seat with a seat number. The package had a letter from Obama, a passport application, a card with US national anthem & oath of allegiance and few extra papers. By the time every one was seated, it was already close to 9:45 am. Then they let friends & families come in. There were a total of 59 applicants, out of which 24 were changing their name, including me . Then the court personnel asked everyone to stand up one by one and introduce themselves. Nothing much, just their name and country of origin. He also told what steps should be taken after the naturalization ceremony and answered any questions that the applicants had. After that the judge introduced himself and told his story about how and when he came to the US. He was a Vietnamese and came here during Vietnamese War. There were few people who came in from Senator's, governor's office as well. The judge also introduced them. Then he asked us to stand up and swear in. The "actual ceremony" took little over 15 minutes, rest was all waiting and introducing but that was worth it . No complains. After the ceremony was completed, we were handed over our certificates and everyone took photos with the judge, US flag. Oh, we were also given a small US flag and a collar pin with two tiny US flags as a souvenir. Then we came out and filled a form for voter registration. I may have missed some things but did write the most important ones.

Now the most important thing: What to do after the ceremony? I want to let you guys know one thing so you don't make the same mistake as I did. As everyone is aware that we have to go to the SSA office and update our social security. But what wasn't told to us was that we have to wait at least 10 days before doing that. I went to the SSA office right after my ceremony, waited there for almost an hour only to be told that I can't do it until 10 days after the ceremony. The guy at the window said a lady before me came for the same purpose. Her oath ceremony took place on 15th Aug (30 days ago) and still her current status is not being showed up on their system. So there's no particular time frame as to when your status will be updated on their end . Can someone here please share their experience of updating their status? How long did you have to wait to get it done?

Aug 30th was my Adminstrative Oath Taking Ceremony (Olando Florida), we were told that after the ceremony we can now apply for a passport, register to vote and remember to go to SSA office to update or record. Those info was also in a list inside the envelop that was on each chair in the Oath Ceremony room along with a small flag. We were told this while waiting in the lobby area before we were ask to fall inline to handover our GC and N-445 (before entering the ceremony area) and during the ceremony itself.

With this tasks in mind, Wednesday the 31th of Aug I went to our local board of election to register - that was easy, already filled out the form that was in the enveloped given to us during Oath Ceremony. They quickly asked to reconfirm info listed like address and birthday, asked for my ID (drivers license) and I was done. Got my voters card in the mail the following week.

Next day Sept 1st, armed with my Naturalization Certificate, I went to our local SSA office to update my record. After a 10 minutes wait (I got lucky there was just 2 person before me - since it was pouring that day due to Hurricane Hermine), I was called to a window and was done in a few minutes. Told the lady the purpose of my visit. Told her that if it was to soon to do it, I can come back another day. She congratulated me, asked for my SS card and Naturalization Certificate pressed some keys on her computer and then she said its done. Chatted a little about the weather, thanked her and was gone.

Sept 2nd (Friday before long Labor Day weekend) when to the local Post Office applied for a passport. Again pre filled out the form and made sure I had my most recent passport picture, Naturatization Certicate and check book ready (110.00 payable to the Department of State - check or money order, and 25.00 processing fee - which can be paid in cash or credit card) did not do expedite service since I had no immediate plan to travel outside the US. Received my passport Thrusday, Sept 15th. Just waiting for the return of my Naturalization Certificate.

All this I did during the hours of noon and 1 PM (lunch breaks). Now my Journey is complete! Best of Luck everybody!

We finally came to the end of our journey.

My husband had his ceremony at Turner Field in Atlanta,GA (home of the Braves!!!) The event was hosted by the Braves (the Vice Chair of the Board for the team gave an address to the crowd)

There were 3 things of significance that day:

It was the largest ceremony ever held in the Southeast region before. 755 new citizens were there to say their oaths- 755 was also the number of home runs hit by our beloved Hank Aaron from the Atlanta Braves in his career.

Also, the date of the ceremony was significant because it was Constitution Day.

As a gift from the Braves team, all candidates received 4 complimentary tickets to the game that same night as well as team baseball caps.

After the ceremony , everyone was able to register to vote.

Congrats to @gagan_usa and @Gypsy Girl - you're pretty much DONE!

I just had my naturalization ceremony yesterday in a District Court in Memphis, TN. Everything went well. The ceremony was supposed to start at 8:30 am but they were running a little late. They started calling everyone in at around 9:10 am and a court personnel handed over a package to everyone and told them to go sit at an already assigned seat with a seat number. The package had a letter from Obama, a passport application, a card with US national anthem & oath of allegiance and few extra papers. By the time every one was seated, it was already close to 9:45 am. Then they let friends & families come in. There were a total of 59 applicants, out of which 24 were changing their name, including me . Then the court personnel asked everyone to stand up one by one and introduce themselves. Nothing much, just their name and country of origin. He also told what steps should be taken after the naturalization ceremony and answered any questions that the applicants had. After that the judge introduced himself and told his story about how and when he came to the US. He was a Vietnamese and came here during Vietnamese War. There were few people who came in from Senator's, governor's office as well. The judge also introduced them. Then he asked us to stand up and swear in. The "actual ceremony" took little over 15 minutes, rest was all waiting and introducing but that was worth it . No complains. After the ceremony was completed, we were handed over our certificates and everyone took photos with the judge, US flag. Oh, we were also given a small US flag and a collar pin with two tiny US flags as a souvenir. Then we came out and filled a form for voter registration. I may have missed some things but did write the most important ones.

Now the most important thing: What to do after the ceremony? I want to let you guys know one thing so you don't make the same mistake as I did. As everyone is aware that we have to go to the SSA office and update our social security. But what wasn't told to us was that we have to wait at least 10 days before doing that. I went to the SSA office right after my ceremony, waited there for almost an hour only to be told that I can't do it until 10 days after the ceremony. The guy at the window said a lady before me came for the same purpose. Her oath ceremony took place on 15th Aug (30 days ago) and still her current status is not being showed up on their system. So there's no particular time frame as to when your status will be updated on their end . Can someone here please share their experience of updating their status? How long did you have to wait to get it done?
