Bringing Our Baby to the USA

Hey all,

I do not know where to post this so my apologies if in the wrong forum.

Our situation is a bit dire. We had our interview on March 8 in Manila and we got a 221G asking for more evidence and documents which we submitted on the 11th and were received on the 14th. There was a status update on the 16th but we have heard nothing since.

My pregnant wife is currently just about at the limit where she can safely fly. If we do not get our visa with in the next 2 weeks we will most likely have to have the baby here.

My question is how do we take our baby to the USA if we do have to wait until after it is born? My wife will have her visa hopefully but what about the baby? Do I need to start a whole new petition or something? What is involved and how long will it take? What about flying with a new born? How old will he have to be to safely travel?

Thanks everyone!

You dont have to file a petition for your baby, you just have to do CRBA.

You'll be needing:

- wife's nso bc

- USC proof of citizenship (passport and BC)

- marriage certificate from NSO

- NSO birth certificate of the baby so I suggest that as soon as the baby's born have it expedited by bringing the hospital issued BC to the city hall that way you just need to waitv1 month instead of 6 months

- pre natal records of your wife (ultrasound and preggy pictures too)

You're welcome. We did the same for our baby. CRBA - Consular Report of Birth Abroad. Can't remember how much we spent.

And oh you have to mail the documents so you can set an appointment.

Thank you but what is a crba and will it hurt? :)

Thanks again,

Do you recall how long the process took? Will we need a DNA test or medical exam?

After we do that we just apply for a passport?

Yeap. They won't accept it if it's just a BC from the hospital or civil registrar. So as soon as you get the BC you take it to the City's civil registrar to get a transmittal, from there you go straight to NSO and request to expedite your baby's BC. It takes 2 to 4 weeks when expedited.

What? A baby needs nso?

Wow, what a process.

After that we get a US passport? Then we are ok to fly?

How old was your baby when you flew? Did you have to but a ticket for the baby?

Thank you so much!

You don't normally need a ticket for a baby if they sit in mom's lap. Be aware that means holding the baby for the whole flight.

Another issue will your wife's visa expiration date. She will most likely need a new medical and will need to request that the visa be extended to accommodate the extra time.
