Timeline

3 tax returns and a letter from employer confirming salary and length of employment so far, no pay stubs and no bank statements. Looks like that was enough for us.

We were similar - last 3 tax returns, 3 pay stubs and a letter of employment. My wife had been a student (and overseas with me) for the past three years, so her tax returns were quite low. We added a letter from her with the evidence, explaining that she has been overseas etc, and that she is now in a stable full time job, even if her tax returns don't reflect that. The employment letter and pay stubs should prove that.

If there's anything I learned from the K1 process, it's that it doesn't hurt to include a letter any time that things are ambiguous or maybe not obvious to the person dealing with your case. It could be all it takes to deal with any confusion and avoid an RFE.

One week since biometrics and no RFE at this point. Hoping we're in the clear but can't be sure! I've noticed a lot of peopleS RFEs come immediately after biometrics. It's as if the case has been reviewed, the RFE is waiting in the system, but isn't sent until the biometrics triggers the process to move to the next stage. Who knows, just a thought.

I agree ET, my package contained a supplement page for each form as I had situations to explain in each case.

No harm in writing one plus it also gave me the chance to explain why I completed some of the boxes on the forms the way I did.

Didn't stop an RFE though haha but that's due to a rather silly error which I have explained previously but no doubt catches people out!

Yeah, supplements and letters of explanations are a pretty good way to TRY and clear doubts ahead of time and TRY to avoid RFEs. My husband and I are the king and queen of exceptions, so we have been always nervous about our case, beginning with the K1, but as we have moved forward we have seen that overwhelming them with evidence and letters of explanations seems to do the trick fine.

I got my biometrics appt yesterday for the 25th and it's luckily not a too far drive. We'll use that day too to go take the written test for my driver's license and book an appointment too for the driving test!

Furthermore, we are now in the painful process of trying to get a new car and dealing with credit scores and predatory dealerships!!! wish us luck!!

went to the dmv yesterday , but can't get drivers license without GC ?

is that how the things are done in your dmv?

cause mine here in NJ works like this: you need to be LEGAL resident to get a drivers license. So as long as you have a work authorization, you may go and get a driver's license.

this is what google says about MT (took from your local office which may be in a different state but still)

To apply for a new driver's license, you must visit your local Montana MVD office and:
  1. Surrender your out-of-state driver's license, if you have it.
  2. Show proof of your identity, residency, and legal U.S. presence. ...
  3. Pass the written permit test and driving tests. ...
  4. Pass a vision test.
  5. Have your photo taken.

from what is whitten above all you'll have to have your passport or a photo ID, then some letters or bills that show that you reside in this state, and your employment authorization card, cause this will prove you are legal here.

The other thing I learnt from talking to these governmental clerks, is that YOU MUST GO TO TALK TO THEM PREPARED AND KNOWING WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE IN ORDER TO OBTAIN SMTH FROM THEM

so this is how it works. You make sure you have everything needed to get a drivers license (wait for your EAD) and go there take the test or whatever.

Cause again they usually just want to get rid of you and will tell you a bunch of misleading sh*t

for me to changemy name on my SS card I was told I had to go back to my home country, change my passport there so that it would reflect my married name, and only then come back and change my SS card. Which is ridiculous, cause the only things they need is again my SS card, my marriage certificate and proof of my legal presence in the US.

Don't listen to them, TELL them WHAT they MUST do.

AOS EAD

5/5/2016 - sent docs to Chicago, AGAIN (i-485, i-130, i-765, i-864) [Day 0] 5/16/2016 - NOA [Day 11]

6/10/2016 - got biometrics letter in the mail, notice date is June 4, 2016, which 8/1/2016 - received answer for the service request "your case is under review" [Day 89]

Yes, i even showed them what i found on the internet. I also got the tests done already( written, driving, eye test)

I have a sscard but can't change my name on it, bc no GC. My new name is on everything else already..

I filed for the GC only, so i guess i have to wait till its done.

I even showed them that on the uscis webpage it says, that the receipt I-797C is proof for immigration and with that i can get the license.

But they didn't care about all of that..

If you have the right to get a gc, then you must go and get it

I have a friend who actually had a war with our dmv and he told me that he spent an enormous amount of hours in there and there was only one old employee who ACTUALLY knew what he was doing and that my friend only talked to him afterwards cause everyone else was saying some bullsh*t
