MY lawyer said the NYC office is taking about 8 months from biometric to interview day. So you are better off to apply AP now.

Hi guys! Has anyone heard anything from New York or Long Island? I am anxiously awaiting my interview - I have the EAD but we didn't apply for AP so I can't leave until I have the GC in hand. I have to be back home by October and if I'm not I'll be devastated. I came in on a travel visa so I doubt they'd waive the visa. My status has been saying 'Read for Interview' since May. Any help much appreciated.

Just wondering how you guys know which office is processing your AOS? If I call, will they tell me?

My local (in-state) office processing time is 4 months, so I'm praying it's that one, however, the office I went to my biometrics appointment in was in Cincinnati, OH, and they were processing July 2015 as of a month ago, so still an insanely long wait if it's that one. My online status is still 'Fingerprint fee received on May 7th', and when I called a few weeks ago they wouldn't tell me anything, and insisted the NOA1 date doesn't count, they time it from May 7th now, which is nonsense, surely!

Also, I just need a quick rant, feel free to ignore.

I got my SSN before we were married with no problems. After marriage, I went to change my name, but they replied saying my I-94 was out of date in 2 weeks. When I went to change my name, it was 3.5 weeks, so I hoped it'd be ok, but they took their time reviewing it. Anyway, annoying but not the end of the world. When I received my EAD, I went back, and it was terrible. I took my passport, marriage license, EAD, NOA1 for AOS, Social Security card and birth certificate. This apparently wasn't enough, and she asked for an I-94. I had it with me, but obviously it's out of date, I arrived in January. She was adamant I was going to be denied, quite forceful in telling me this. Eventually she said 'Oh, I'll just force it through and see what it says', and it printed the 'USCIS will take 4 weeks to verify your documents' letter. Again, annoying.

That day my husband and I went to set up a bank account for me, and a joint account for us. With me I took my passport, EAD, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Marriage license, and a letter dated the past month from USCIS. Apparently this letter from USCIS, who do every possible check in life, wasn't official enough as a proof of address. They asked for a bank statement (REALLY?!! I am here to SET UP AN ACCOUNT IF I HAD A STATEMENT I WOULDN'T BE HERE), or a utility bill. Husband and I live with his mother, so we can save on rent and buy together when I get a job, which means bills are in her name. He then said I'd need a State ID card instead.

Yay more paperwork. So on Monday we went to apply for this. Just to be extra annoying, the DMV for a State ID accept the same letter as proof of address that the bank will not accept for not being official enough. Because that totally makes sense, right? However, the DMV wouldn't process my application because my Social Security card still has my maiden name on.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

[/Rant] Thanks for listening.

[/Rant] Thanks for listening.

I had that problem at the DMV. We had my husbands GC by then though, but I had to show two proof of residencies for MYSELF and then write an affidavit saying that my husband did in fact live with me. The only thing we had within the last 30 days was the green card letter addressed to him, which we didn't have with us. I used car insurance and my car registration as proof of residence (since I forgot to bring any other bills in my name).

The lady asked a couple of times if we had anything in his name, and I'm like other than a joint bank account, we literally got the GC a week ago, so there hasn't been a chance to put his name on bills, plus most want a state issued ID to do that, so that's why we're here lol.

The first time, we just brought the NOA's in their envelopes, the I-797 for the I-485 and then the biometrics interview notice, all in original envelopes. They considered it proof at the time, they just couldn't find him in the system, which is why we went back.

We added my husband to my bank account shortly after receiving his SS card in the mail, it was no problem, but we also have USAA which probably deals with immigration all the time.

Just as a note, I have heard that people are having issues being verified shortly after receiving their EAD. For what ever reasons, the EAD's aren't showing up in the systems as fast as they should and a lot of people are getting hit with the "hold on, have to wait to verification" kind of thing, some have mentioned that it's safer to wait a couple of weeks or so after the EAD, than to try to do anything right when ya get it.

I never got the chance to ask this myself, but I'm assuming that my case DIDN'T go to my local office. VJ is showing a like 200 day wait for GC's and the USCIS local office site shows they are processing cases from Jan 2016. When I had filed, it was at Nov 2015, and we were approved within 77 days.

Here though, there are separate offices, the biometrics office we went too is NOT the same place that processes things. It was in a strip mall, very small, no back rooms or anything.

They still can send it to you, but having the green card makes the ead invalid. With the gc you can work and travel abroad.
