Good luck!!

Thank you! I could feel the good vibes from VJ. We got there at 9am, our appointment was scheduled for 930, we got called back together at 10am and were done by 1015. They asked me for my bio info then asked my wife for hers. Looked at our passports. They also asked us both to give the full name and birthday of the other. Asked questions of my wife about past J1 visa and if she completed the 2 year homestay requirement and then the standard are you a criminal questions. They asked if we had anything new to add and we gave them a copy of our house contract that we bought together, copies of our health and life insurance, light bill. Looked at my old passport with my first trips to Guatemala. We had a picture album from the last 9 years that we flipped through with her and told her who everyone was and the trips we had taken together and the trips to Guatemala and her to the US, pics of me with her family, her with my family, when our mothers met each other, my dog in Guatemala with her niece, pictures of us here in Columbus with friends. After we finished the album (about 60 pics of 1000s that we have taken) she looked through a photo book she gave me when we got married and also glanced at our wedding photo book. Gave everything back to us and then said she had everything she needed to approve our application and that we should expect the green card in 2-3 weeks! No stamp but we are extremely excited and relieved. Good luck to all still waiting!

SIGH.

Once you think things are going well....

So our EAD status changed to "has been mailed to me". Yay. BUT.... last night we got an RFE for the green card. RFE for the medical exam and vaccination forms, which they already actually have or he is exempted from. I-485 instructions say if you're a K1 and had a medical in the past year, don't need a full medical with I-485. Ok. then you go to the vaccination supplement and IT says that if you had a DS 3025 properly filled out and submitted (he did) that you don't have to provide that. I'm super annoyed.

I just found out that my insurance would cover him getting all the vaccines again (third time getting childhood vaccines) and there is a civil surgeon who will transcribe them for cheap (and she is more outraged than I am at this issue and refuses to perform a new physical until we exhaust all routes getting a copy of what was already done, and knows that she shouldn't even have to transcribe which is why she does it so cheap), but christ alive! What is up with these people?

I'm not sure if it's incompetence or retaliation for putting in a service request, which is just so sad (are my government representatives less aware of how to do their jobs than I am, or are they wielding their considerable power over me out of spite).

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

24 Oct 2015: POE !

15 Dec 2015: Fiance's mother's B-2 visa interview: APPROVED! So happy she will be at the wedding!

?? any tricky question?

Not at all.

After the oath, he asked for my passport and he asked my husband:

- What is your full name?

- Date of birth?

- Where do you work? And what do you do?

- What is your address?

- What is her full name?

- What is her date of birth?

- How, when and where did you propose her?

- When and where did you get married?

Then for me:

- What is your full name?

- Date of birth?

- What is your address again?

- What is his full name?

- What is his date of birth?

- Do you have any additional document?

So I showed 2 photo albums, and he just asked why we chose get married in Las Vegas.

Then he said that by the way we talk and by the pictures he was going to go ahead and approve my Green Card because for sure we have a real relationship.

Then he explained that it expires in 2 years and we should fill the form I-751 in 2 years.

That is all :)

Congrats to everyone on successful interviews and GCs! Good times!

I got my EAD today, so back to work on Monday. Also will start the Drivers License process in a couple of weeks.

Question to everyone who had done it with EAD rather than GC in hand - do they write a "temporary visitor until [date of EAD expiration]" there or not? I had a non-driver New York State ID with my previous EAD (on student visa) and it had that and it's annoying.

Yes, they do write that in NY state.. I renewed my new DL a week ago and it has the EAD expiry date on it.. Per my understanding, if your previous DL is still valid then u can still drive because it is the expiry date of the DL that matters not the expiry date of Temp Visitor status.

I renewed my DL last week based of my EAD card and this week my GC approved so i would have to go there again and for the third time to get a new DL.

Thank you! My previous ID was non-DL, now a want a DL (but we don't really drive in NYC so I'm in no rush). I know that the expiration date matters more than the status but my landlord made me put in an extra couple thousand as a deposit because of that writing on my ID (as in - we're not even sure you have status until the end of your lease, so what if you get booted and whatever), so I'd really love something that doesn't say that so that I can get that money back lol
