I hope you get real progress soon, the most frustrating part of this process is the randomness:(

Yes, exactly! Thanks for understanding. :-)

april 4th: i-485 delivered to chicago lockbox

april 7th: "biometrics fee received and accepted"

april 10th: email notification of acceptance and routing to NBC for processing

april 11th: hardcopy i-797C in mail (notice date april 8th)

april 30th: received biometrics letter for: may 11th @ 9am

june 2nd: received interview letter for: july 6th @ 11.10am

july 6th: Interview day---no decision was made

july 13th: sent e-mail to congressman, asking for an inquiry on my case.

When they told you at DMV you needed verified did they fax any of your documents anywhere? They took my passport, EAD and my i797c for my I-485 and faxed them all over to immigration to make the verification of the EAD go faster... Just a thought of they didn't do that maybe that's why it's taken so long to verify... Even on USCIS SAVE's website it says if verification is needed the more documents they have the faster it is for them to verify you

Yes they took my passport, and my EAD and actually they already took my photo and fingers print already.

I am having issues to login to myUSCIS. When I log in shows that the latest update was today, but when I click it says my IP is blocked.

Anybody else have this issue?

On two occasions, it's told me that my account has been locked for inactivity or entering the password incorrectly too many times (neither of which I have done)... It tells me to contact something or change my password, but I never do. I just went back in a few hours it's back up running. But that's at the log in page, not after looking at updates.

But no, I've never received an IP blocked. Try on a different browser or device to see if that does anything?

Just an update to everyone. After receiving the EAD two days ago, we went to our local SSA office today to get a SSN number. The guy there told us that the EAD was not yet registered in the system (understandably).

He asked us why my wife didn't get an SSN under her K1/I-94... we said we thought that the legal employment status was required for an EAD. Well, apparently getting an SNN pre-EAD is not only possible, but recommended. Now we must wait 2-4 weeks for the SSN card, since the guy who assisted us needs to wait for the DHS to confirm that she has her EAD (this is a direct consequence of the EAD not yet being registered in the system).

For all those waiting for their EAD, unless it's going to arrive very soon, i'd recommend going to your local SSA office asap with your passport, birth certificate, and marriage certificate. Once your EAD arrives, all you'll need to do is return to the SSA office with your marriage certificate and change your last name.

If you already have your EAD and don't yet have your SSN card, perhaps wait 3 or so business days before going to the SSA, that way it's certain that everything is in the system.

Cheers

Oh, I just got same problem that DMV told me my EAD was not yet verified in the system and I need to wait and go back to renew my DV.

I'm still not sure if I should go apply my SSN now or wait. Do you need to return to SSA?

You should call yourself. My husband doesn't speak much English and I handle most of his paperwork anyway. When they ask who you are just say you're the petitioner for you husband. He has to be present to agree and state his name.

I agree with the last person who mentioned to call in the morning. However, I honestly haven't gotten any help from calling and I've called twice. They did tell me that my case was "ready for an interview to be scheduled", however our I-485 doesn't say that. Maybe that's what your husband heard?

Just out of curiosity... are you able to check your I-485? What does it say? I'm still on "fingerprints fee received" from 4/28, hoping that my interview will be waived.

They have a Spanish option (and his English is I'd say... high intermediate anyway). But he's like the least detail oriented person on the planet (unless it has something to do with the mechanics of anything that has moving pieces in which case he can and has spent 4 hours debating the merits of one tiny piece of something vs another and the $1.30 difference between the two....hooray for ADD) and they won't talk to me without his permission, and for that we need to be in the same room during business hours which we never are because I'm working two jobs and crazy hours because see: husband has no ability to work.

We're not able to check *anything* through that site. None of our three receipt numbers come up with anything except

"Validation Error(s)

You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
  • My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283."

And then when you call that number, it's just Tier 1 and they type in the numbers for you and say "oh, you're not in the system" and then say that you need to talk to Tier 2 but Tier 2 is busy. So basically, no way to get any answers. I'm at my wit's end.

December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. Oh, I just got same problem that DMV told me my EAD was not yet verified in the system and I need to wait and go back to renew my DV.

I'm still not sure if I should go apply my SSN now or wait. Do you need to return to SSA?

Unfortunately the clerk just took our information and will process it whenever the DHS updates the information. I'm afraid it will be delayed.

We'll call next Monday to see if it has updated. Once the SSN is issued, we can go and get a printed paper with the number on it, that way there's no need to wait for the physical card.

I had this problem for like three weeks or so, I cleared cookies and did everything that I could. Eventually it either worked itself out, or I figured out how to fix it. If I used the save password feature on Chrome, and tried to log into USCIS with the saved password and the place for username and password are yellow and prefilled in, then it wouldn't let me in. But if I typed out each one manually, it eventually let me in.

I changed my passwords over and over and over and over again and it'll either say locked or ERROR OCCURED CONTACT SYSTEM SUPPORT. I had even tried on my phone and at my work computer, had the same issues. I think that I was checking it way too much, maybe I had flagged the system or something lol.

I never contacted anyone, I just.. kept relentlessly trying.

Yes but only certain visa are eligible example the k1... BUT you must apply 14days BEFORE your I-94 expires... If you apply after that point your no longer eligible for a SSN until your EAD is in hand Edited by Moslund

You can't. You need to apply for one within two weeks of your I-94 expiring, and even then only with the type of visa that permits you getting an SSN. You have to wait for EAD.

Edit: when I said you can't I meant you personally, AOSing from an overstay. Because one, your I-94 is expired and two, I don' tknow what visa you overstayed but I'd guess that if it was the type of visa that you were allowed to have an SSN, you'd have gotten one.

In general, K1s can get an SSN before EAD but only if there's more than 2 weeks before the I-94 expires. This is because certain states require an SSN to get married, and K1s are here specifically to allow them to get married.

You can, but only if you I-94 is not expired or within 2 weeks of expiring. My guess is that yours is already expired.

I unfortunately did not know this at the time when my husband came here in January. At that point, I was sick of reading about anything immigration after going through a year of the K1 visa process. I regret it now because he really hasn't been able to do much without it. But luckily his EAD just got approved this week.
