Best course of action: b1 or b2?

Hi,

A friend of mine would like to come to the US for 6 month on a b2/b1 visa to discuss a job opportunity with a potential employer.

We both know he has to prove he holds strong ties with his country of origin and he can financially maintain himself.

Unfortunately, he is currently not working and lives with his mom. Also, they don't own the house in which they live - they pay rent.

However, the potential employer is willing to document that he can financially pay for my friend.

Given the situation, what course of action do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

SZ

As we were just recently DENIED as visitor visa, even having a job and kids, and family, is NOT enough to get a visitor visa. And probably trying to use job hunting as a plausible reason to be granted one?? I would guess probably not.

However, if this possible employer had a letter and they were going to give this person an interview, maybe. But probably have to have a certified letter from the company. As there are many foreign workers who have visas and can travel to many countries, with stipulations attached.

Thanks you all for your responses!

My friend will like to stay here a little longer to explore the country!

A certified letter from the employer is a viable option, I will look into that.

My question now is: can the reason for applying for a b1 visa be a job interview?

Thanks.

no employer is going to fund a six month paid vacation before an employee even begins work.....and no interview process is going to take months....so there must be other reasons for this inquiry....(a few of which I can easily think of)...

why can't your 'friend' use the VWP? Why does he 'need' to stay six months? If the job offer is from within the US, what in the world will compel your 'friend' to return to wherever? Way too many loose ends....

where does his USC fiancé live?

I think you are right, too many loose ends..

Shiobhan:

The 5 month option might work just fine - can you send me a link so I can learn more about this possibility?

Thanks.

What kind of job would this be that the most suitable candidate is someone from outside the country, currently unemployed and living with his mother? We are obviously not talking about Bill Gates' successor.
