AOS interview/documents

Hello,

I have a few questions for our upcoming interview (April 20th). I was going through the list of documents that we need to bring and here are the unclear points:

1) Affidavit of support (Form I-864) with all required evidence, including the following, (unless already submitted):

• Federal income tax returns and W2, or certified IRS printouts, for the most recent year

Question:

We filed for AOS in December 2015 and sent the Affidavit of support with the tax return documents for 2014. That was the most recent year at that time. Do we now need to bring the tax return documents for 2015? Or with the documents we sent regarding 2014 we are good?

2) All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status.

Question:

What exactly do we need to prepare for this?

3) Your petitioner's birth certificate and your petitioner's evidence or United States Citizenship

Question:

What other proof than his birth certificate can we bring? His birth certificate is what proves his US citizenship, he doesn't have a passport but we can apply for one.

One of my contacts on another immigration forum told me he did an infopass regarding the 2015 tax return and USCIS said that a copy of the 1040 for 2015. That's what I plan on doing for my interview next month.

PS our interview is on the same day!

# 2 I would think that is a copy of everything we already submitted within the AOS package: marriage certificate, visa you entered the US on, etc.

#3 if the petitioner was born in the US with a US birth certificate, I believe that's all they need to prove citizenship

We're having our interview on April 8, here's a list of all the documents I'll be taking for us (I'm the USC):

-Both of our passports

-His I94

-Both original birth certificates (his is from the Consulate here, so it's notarized and translated)

-Our original marriage certificate & certified copy in case they want to keep one

-Copies of all the documents we mailed (485/325As/130/131/765)

-All my previous pay stubs

-Updated letter from my employer

-2013, 2014, 2015 tax information (I filed a month ago)

-His mandatory military service discharge paperwork (from his home country) & translation

-Lease agreement showing both of our names

-Checking & Savings account statements with both of our names

-Phone plan showing both of our names

-Gas bill showing both of our names

-My insurance paperwork, showing he is under my insurance

-Holiday cards that were addressed to both of us

-Plane tickets we had booked together

-Volunteer day we both participated in information

-Album of our wedding photos/travel photos/photos with family & friends

I'm nervous too, let me know if you think anything else could be helpful beyond this list? I will post our experience after the interview next Friday. Good luck and thanks!

I think your list of documents is good and complete! At least you have your tax docs for 2015 ? My husband still had to do his!

Are certified copies just regular copies or did you order new documents? I'm always confused with the term certified. For our AOS package, we just sent copies and it was fine but yesterday I heard that a certified copy is basically a new original document that you order to the court (if marriage certificate).

As per my knowledge, you are expected to bring originals of the documents you submitted when you filed paperwork. For documents not sent before, take both original and copy (doesn't need to be certified as you are already bringing original with you). If they want, they will keep the copy with them for records.

I had my AOS interview 2 weeks ago and got my GC in mail last week.

C&I,I am amazed how fast your case went. Filing to interview in 4months!! Awesome

You might want to add the SSN card to the list.I was asked for it at the interview and thankfully we had it on hand. At the end, the IO made copies of DLs, Passports and SSNs (of both of us).

Thank you! OK so we will bring all the originals and take a simple copy of them as well, just to be sure.

I know it went pretty fast, I'm surprised as well! I don't know if it's because Pittsburgh is not a very busy office, maybe?
