My fiancee is Russian and will be arriving in the US next Saturday after being approved for a K-1 Visa. :) We then had her daughter, who is a 24 year old accountant who owns her own apartment, apply for a B-2 visa so she could come to our wedding. It was denied. This saddens us deeply. I can't even imagine why my country could deny a mother's own daughter from attending her wedding. :crying: The daughter told us of other outcomes while she was at the US Consulate in Ekaterinburg:

- A Russian mother and son had already been to the US three times. When they went to apply for another trip, the mother was approved but the son was denied. The explanation ? "New rules."

- A couple of women wanted to visit America to see the sites in New York City. No problem! They were granted a visa.

It blows my mind that a government has the power to inflict such pain on families! Especially with direct blood relatives!

She applied for a Visitor visa if this was so important then this should have been something to look at when deciding which route to take.

Assuming she is not married her mother can sponsor her to immigrate when she has her GC.

As Boiler mentions, when making the decision about which type of visa to apply for, having family at the wedding should have been a major factor. My wife's mother and brother would not have been able to obtain US visas to attend the wedding had we went the K-1 route. As a result, we married in Colombia and 6 of my US family members easily traveled there to attend the nuptials. You're, in effect, blaming US immigration policy for your own poor planning. It's not too late, though. You can abandon the K-1, get married in Russia, and apply for CR1 visa.

Or get married in the US and then have a blessing whatever that all her family and friends can attend?

We did something like this as we thought it would be very difficult to have my fiance's son get a visitor visa to come over. At our wedding in the US we set up a webcam and had it at a time that was reasonable for my wife's family. Then we went back to Russia after she got her GC and had several celebrations there with all my new family.

Good Luck!

They don't care about the reasons why someone wants to go to the States.

Weddings, births, graduations, illnesses...

It doesn't matter.

ALL they care about is that the tourist will leave at the end of the trip. Your fiances daughter obviously didn't convince them that she will.

It's probably nothing that she did wrong. It's the past actions of young women and men who've been granted their tourist visas and gone hunting for a USC spouse as soon as they've got out of the airport.

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

No... Thank you for the sage wisdom Russ but I would never consider which route to take based simply on the desire to have guests attend. And if I had the wedding in Russia, none of my relatives would have attended. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. Obviously, my decision to go K-1 was obviously a good one simply due to the fact that was approved... something not everyone achieves. And for sure the daughter's performance at the interview had nothing to do with the outcome. The result was probably a fait accompli before the interview even started. Thanks for the info Boiler but her daughter has no desire to immigrate to the country. I thought about a webcam but the wedding will be on the beach.

Have someone record the wedding for you :)

There are also ways to get a webcam, via a phone or an ipad wirelessly. You could use a backup battery with a large amount of backup hours for power. There are also providers of this service for you for a fee of course.

I know that there are wedding planners who can do this, I live in the boonies and they can broadcast from here. Beach should not be an issue.

Yes it sucks. They didn't give my mother-in-law a visa to come here for our wedding either. They consider a lack of really close relatives back home and having really close relatives in the US a huge minus in the chances of getting a visa.

If the daughter would be married and preferably with children, then she would most likely have gotten a visa as the husband and children would remain behind to ensure she came back.

Sadly, a job and an apartment are not enough guarantees in Russia and Ukraine.

Stop.......be thankful your government allowed your foreign fiance to immigrate to the US.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
