Hello everyone,

It's been 2 years since I came to the US to be with my fiance. We got married and I gave birth to our baby on March 2015. Our relationship has been quite a roller coaster ride. Problems with money, etc...

Until now I don't Have a driver's lisence and he seems like he has no intention to get me one. I applied for a state ID by myself using a taxi ( which is very pricy) .

I don't have any other family that lives nearby to help me out. I thought he loves me but lately I've been seeing signs that I am just like a mail order bride to him.

Please help me

Try to find a PI community near you who may be able to help you out.
Do you have your GC ?

Do you know how to drive ? If yes, you can get a learner's permit to refresh if needed and/or get your driver's license.

Not sure where you are in your immigration process.

Sorry that you feel isolated, I am in IL too but too far away or we could have a cup of coffee.

Why is it his responsibility to get you a driver's licence? You're an adult in a free country. Get a taxi to the nearest DMV office and get your own licence.

Do you work?

She might need to have someone practice her. Not sure if this is her situation but a lot of people from the Philippines do not drive including myself. My husband had to send me to driving lessons here and in the Philippines and he spent time practicing me to drive. That's probably why she said that. Plus, if they only have one car then she won't be able to practice without spending a lot of money.

OP, correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

I will probably get myself a driver's license once I have enough money to use a cab and take my baby with me. I try very hard to find work at home jobs, my husband has a little business too that I work on but he never pay me for all the work I do.

I'm sorry to hear this but I hope you can try to convince him you need to learn not just to go to work but for emergency purposes. Try give him the pros of you knowing how to drive. One of the perks my husband enjoy is he can drink and I drive. That is just one. Since you have a kid, what if you need to take your kid to the doctor for check up, you can take your kid without having to wait for him. That's of course if you have two cars. There are a lot of benefits but ask him too why he hasn't taught you yet. Try to understand where is he coming from and what could be his issue why he seem like changing from the time you got here if yo haven't done yet.

I know someone who works for Odesk and earn $400/week. it's not a lot but would help you. The thing is, you need to clear the situation with your husband. You are supposed to help each other and support each other. If he is not willing to support you in what you want to do, ask why does he not want to do it? Then maybe everything will be clearer. Right now, you're sort of guessing what's the problem.

You will spend a lot of money to learn how to drive. You would need private lessons and hours of practice and if he is not going to do it then you will have to pay each time you practice. Are your in-laws close? Maybe they can teach you when they're on off.
