Not changing your last name will have no bearing on your N-400.

yup, I was aware of that. Badiday was only asking about the Reporting of Marriage since this is in Philippines they will be asked to change name. But since this USA, I just simply added that I didn't change my name. I was from Philippines too so I knew stuff in this country, have dual citizenship (UK and Phils).

Badiday,

A health care Power of Attorney specifies what kind of medical care you want should you not be able to decide for yourself. Let's say you were in a bad car accident, and you had a severe brain injury and would probably never recover. Would you want to be kept alive at all costs with tubes feeding you, breathing for you, and having to have 24 hour care for the rest of your (not) life? A health care power of attorney (and living will) states your wishes, and also appoints someone (usually a spouse, but not always) to make those kind of decisions in case you are not able to.

If you don't have time to fill one out, please have this discussion with your spouse - so that your partner knows what YOU want should you be in a medical crisis.

For example, I would not want to be kept alive "at all costs". If I am brain-damaged beyond the point of ever being able to truly live my life, I do NOT want to be kept alive. I want to let go - and want my spouse to honor my wishes.

Because you have a child, you really SHOULD have a will. You need to figure out who will care for your child should both you and your spouse be killed. Otherwise the State makes that decision.

You don't HAVE to have these documents - and discussing your own death - especially when you are young - can be a very hard thing to do. But there are so many tragedies where partners have NOT discussed their wishes - or...they've talked about them but have not documented them - and then things can get ugly.

So please...take some time and read about these - and have that hard talk with your spouse. It can save so much heartache later.

Best of luck!
