Hello VJ members. I don't know if I'm on the right page or not but I want to ask this question. My wife is from the Philippines and she became a united states citizen 4 months ago. At that time, my wife's Philippine passport was not expired and after her oath for citizenship, she applied for a u.s. passport which she received 3 weeks later after her u.s. oath. The question is, does she have dual citizenship. I have read some old posts dated back to the year 2010 and 2013 and some people on that topic said yes and some said no. My wife wants to make sure that she has dual citizenship since she is going to the Philippines for vacation to see her family. Thank you for any replys.

She needs to renounce her citizenship to your local Philippine Consulate

From what I understand, she lost her Philippine citizenship upon naturalizing in a foreign country, so she is not a dual citizen now, but she can re-acquire Philippine citizenship and become a dual citizen by taking an oath at the Philippine consulate.

All of the above are incorrect. A Filipino may have dual citizenship. It's a matter of how one files for citizenship. Check with NVA as well as the Philippine consulate in the US. This really should have been done before she became a US citizen. Many Filipinos opt for this. There are no consequences to having dual citizenship in the US. In the PI...it would be best for her to have dual citizenship. So, you really need to look into this carefully to be sure that she has it.

This is correct. When you take the US Oath, you essentially renounce your Philippines citizenship. To reacquire it, you go to your consulate (or Embassy), and apply for reaqcuisition of RP citizenship. I did mine the same day. My RP passport was still valid, but they voided it and had me reapply again as a dual citizen. No idea why they did that (my passport still had like 4 years validity).

Hello everyone, I am helping my wife filling out her dual citizenship application. There is one part I don't understand and maybe someone out there had to do dual citizenship application Philippines. Question 13b, it said Mode of acquisition of foreign citizenships [specify all]. That is the only question we are stuck on. Any replys will be most helpful. Thank you everyone and happy easter to everyone out there.
