I don't mean to sound ungrateful here. I know how so many people are desperate to be united with their loved ones and waiting in agony for their visa. I was there not so long ago, but now that we have the visa in hand, can't find the time to go and get my wife.

For a CR-1 visa that has a certain validity, as in the date by which you must enter US.. If you are having difficulty traveling by this date is there a way you can request and easily granted an extension or new visa issued and printed with a longer range of dates within which you can enter the USA?

My wife doesn't want to travel alone, despite my insistence and it is a bit difficult for me to take time off as I did so for her interview and spent 3 weeks with her and now I'm finding myself buried in work and taking more time off will only make things more difficult for me. It's been 4 months since her interview and she got visa issued only now with about 2 months validity. Since normally people have six months validity on visa counting from the date of the medical, Is there a way we can request some additional time? I can manage my work much better in a few months. What is the procedure here, if any? Thanks in advance for your time and help.

This will sound harsh. Do not even entertain bothering USCIS about an extension for the frivolous reason that an adult is afraid to travel alone.

Not even physically possible. As the flights each way with minimum connections ends up being 18-something hours each way. Plus, I wish I had the energy to go on such an adventure. Now a days, a one way flight b/w US and pakistan has me jet lagged for a good week at least.

This will sound harsh. Do not even entertain bothering USCIS about an extension for the frivolous reason that an adult is afraid to travel alone.

Nuff said.

thanks.

No you cant. She'd at the very least need a new medical. But it's highly unlikely given your reasoning.

got it. thanks

Just an idea there are many from Pakistan in here why not see if there are any one leaving here soon and they could start talking and maybe do the trip together, that way she won't be all alone ...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she CAN travel alone. It's just that she'd rather not. She just wants me to accompany her. She has her reasons.

And regarding your suggestion, I wouldn't arrange for her to travel with someone I meet off the internet. If you're planning to do something like this, I'd strongly advise against that. When I travel overseas, I don't so much as even converse with people en route with me. You don't know who's who. No offense to anyone. But I just think it's best to keep to yourself during international travel. I always have people trying to get friendly with me as soon as I reach the middle east and they see that blue passport in my hand. I'd rather they judge me in their minds as rude and self absorbed or whatever then to risk my safety. What if you associate with a smuggler, or terrorist without even knowing. I wouldn't risk it.

It can't hurt anything to request an extension at the embassy.

While it's a differnent country my wife's K-1 Visa was delayed for almost 3 months while we waited to get some additional documentation required by the Embassy leaving her with only a couple of weeks to enter the USA. We were able to 'discuss' with the embassy and with a new medical got an extended date. Although that was before the visa was attached to her Passport. In any case I agree with the poster above. I can't see the harm in requesting an extension with the understanding that it is likley that if granted a new medical would be required. Good Luck to you and your wife.

That's good to hear. That's what I was thinking, they should be accommodating in this way. If a person is moving to another country forever, it's very likely they may need time to comfortably make the move, esp given, our 1st 3.5 months out of 6 were absorbed by the AP.
