I received my oath letter earlier this morning, in regards to the oath ceremony at the end of the month. However, I am scheduled to depart the country to visit my girlfriend, and also business meeting in another country the following day. This trip was planned months in advanced. I brought the airplane ticket and hotel already.

My question is this, I understand during the oath ceremony USCIS will take away my green card in order to be a US citizen. I understand I can't leave the country without a green card, or a US passport. Documentation stating I am a US citizen, or have the rights to return to the US once I depart. After the oath ceremony, I was planning to go straight to the US passport agency and present to them my airplane ticket and hotel etc.

Can the passport agency issue a passport within such short of a time?

- I understand, some passport agency issue same day passport. But I am not sure, does it apply to new citizens?

Can I still travel to another country, the following day after the oath ceremony? If so what documentation do I need to bring?

I dont want to waste my airplane ticket and hotel, cause it's non refundable. At the same time, I dont want miss the oath ceremony.

Please advice, and thank you in advance.

Yes same day passports applies to new citizens too. Just bring passport pictures and the documents needed. But your first step is to start making phone calls, find a place that does the same day passport...

Yes you can get a same day passport (at one of the passport agencies, not at a post office or other application center). As you've figured out, you'll need an appointment.

You can make an appointment at any passport agency in any city.

You need to use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the U.S. Under state department regulations. There are some exceptions made for land-travel to Canada, but these are border agency policies and don't apply to airports.

Since you can't get an appointment in time, you'll have to choose between postponing your trip or postponing your oath ceremony. If you can't push back your trip, return to oath letter and ask for the ceremony to be rescheduled.
